If you are a compassionate and enthusiastic practitioner wishing to enhance and develop their knowledge, skills and experience in paediatric dysphagia as a band 7, then this is the job for you. You will be working within the Manchester SALT team who are part of the Manchester Local Care Organisation.

Working closely with the additional needs team you will be responsible for providing dysphagia support to infants and children who have complex health conditions and/or learning difficulties within the community and specialist support schools across the city.

You will also provide dysphagia support to children within mainstream schools.

You will be supported in your role by a B8 clinical lead. You will also work with the Head of Service and operational team co-ordinators to ensure the smooth delivery of the dysphagia service across the city. This may include being involved in service delivery changes as needs across this area evolve and we will welcome your ideas for the service development and provide you with the support you need to grow as a professional.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist assessment and management of patients with wide ranging dysphagia and/or acquired communication needs.

Take responsibility for devising, monitoring and evaluating specialist advice/programmes of care for parents/carers and other professionals.

Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to provide education, advice and support to patients, parents/carers and the wider staff team.

Have excellent organisational and time management skills, being able to prioritise a busy workload and cope well under pressure.

Take responsibility for keeping up to date with recent developments and research relevant to clinical area and contribute to small scale studies as appropriate.

  • Post Basic Dysphagia qualification or equivalent

  • Highly comprehensive theoretical knowledge of paediatric dysphagia and SLCN
  • Considerable experience of working in specialist field required for post
  • Knowledge and up to date use of assessment procedures and therapy techniques in specialist field
  • Excellent caseload management skills
