Job summary

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team. The nurse will act as an autonomous practitioner in forming holistic clinical decisions and complex management plans in the diagnosis, assessment and treatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff formulate the development of clinical guidance for all aspects of clinical practice within the clinical speciality. The post holder will develop new areas of practice, with nursing and consultant staff ensuring quality standards are met. The post holder will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues to ensure that high quality patient care is maintained. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the daily management of the service and interact frequently with relevant stakeholders both within the organisation and as part of the South east London Cancer Alliance.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the RDC service for an experienced nurse with advanced nursing skills to join the ANP team for a 6-12 months fixed term contract with the potential of a substantive post thereafter. The post holder will hold a distinct level of responsibility to patients with concerning non site-specific symptoms and will be a fully integrated and valued member of the RDC team

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and experienced, and be someone who enjoys patient contact and working in a multi-disciplinary environment to support the delivery of a high quality service. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, flexibility, and reliability with an organised approach to work. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day operational management of the RDC service as well as strategic engagement with the South East London Cancer Alliance, third sector organisations and appropriate local stakeholders when required.

Due to the nature of the role, we are looking for a dependable and highly adaptable experienced nurse who can work autonomously as well as cohesively integrating and working with members of our dynamic RDC team at GSTT.

Job responsibilities

The main duties of the role including :-

Deliver of Professional and Clinical responsibilities including assessment individuals holistically using a range of difficult assessment methods

Deliver evidenced based expert nursing exercising a high degree of professional autonomy, demonstrating ability to make sound decisions based on knowledge and experience

Promote Service Delivery and improvements proactively developing strategy monitoring and improving qualify of health through innovation and leading new practices and service design

To develop and implement with nursing and consultant staff new policies and clinical guidance for new procedures.

Lead the team in establishing and maintaining effective communication channels with multi-disciplinary team, patients and their carers and external agencies.

Coordinate, lead and manage the activities of clinics on a day to day basis.

Establish regular dialogue with local and tertiary referral centres showing good practice.

Assisting with the investigation of complaints. Lead on development of action plans to address areas of concern.

work across professional, organisational and system boundaries and proactively develop and sustain new partnerships and networks to influence and improve health, outcomes and healthcare delivery system

Provide training and education opportunities within the team, Trust, local and national arenas

Ensure best practice and active in budgetary requirements for the service

Ensure complaint with cancer pathways ; provide reports of statistics, service and practice developments

To develop and implement with nursing and consultant staff new policies and clinical guidance for new procedures.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Bachelorss Degree in Nursing, health or management
  • Masters level qualification/in A progress or equivalent Experience
  • Advanced physical assessment for non-medical practitioners qualification
  • Independent prescriber A according to the Trusts Non medical prescribing policy
  • First level registered Nurse (or relevant professional registration)


Experience

Essential

  • Broad clinical experience relevant to the post, including previous experience of general medicine principles.
  • Experience of running own clinics
  • Experience of teaching patients and staff and others including health promotion and prevention orientation,


Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of speciality with a wide range of approaches to the management of patients, demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning and be able to comprehensively assess patients for risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Ability to draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision- making to determine evidence- based therapeutic interventions
  • Ability to lead within the nursing profession and multi-professional working; within an organisation and across organisation boundaries , being able to identify and implement systems to promote their contribution and demonstrate the impact of advanced level nursing to the healthcare team and the wider health and social care sector;
