Job summary

Would you like an opportunity to focus your career in a Clinical Service Unit (CSU), managing Outpatients? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and dynamic individual to join the leadership team responsible for the Outpatient Clinical Service Unit. The role will be based at Manchester Royal Infirmary supporting Diabetes, Endocrinology, Metabolism, Lipids, Clinical Immunology & Allergy, Rheumatology, Specialist Medicine Day Unit, COVID Medicines Delivery Unit and Main Outpatients Department. The post will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of operational issues and performance targets due to the varied nature of the specialties. The successful applicant will have experience of working with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams, excellent communication skills, meeting targets and deadlines and a strong aptitude for change. You will need excellent organisational skills to co-ordinate the delivery of a comprehensive, high quality service for our patients. You will manage information in relation to the patient pathways, ensuring targets, including 18 weeks and diagnostic targets are achieved and maintained, and work with the senior management team to support service development projects within the CSU.

Main duties of the job

The overall purpose of the post is to ensure the delivery of the very best care and experience to our patients through the effective operational performance management of all services.The post holder will have responsibility for the day to day operational performance of all services within Clinical Services Unit (CSU).

A core aspect of the role will be supporting the Unit Manager/Unit Director in the delivery of all performance targets, contracted activity, finance, service/quality standards and service productivity and efficiency.The post holder will support the development and improvement of all services, continuing to strive to provide the very best care and experience to all patients, as well as continually improving the motivation and wellbeing of staff.

The post holder will lead on a number of agreed projects as directed by the Unit Director/Manager to improve patient care and services and/or the wellbeing of staff.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Operational management experience, which would usually have been gained through at least 3 years of working within the NHS at management/operational level
  • Knowledge and experience of project management
  • Knowledge and experience of managing performance targets


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the clinical effectiveness, patient safety and quality agenda


Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant and significant experience


Desirable

  • Managerial qualification equivalent to post graduate diploma


Skills

Essential

  • Able to present relevant written and verbal information in a concise format - standard of application form
  • Able to use IT and have key board skills to produce self-generated information
