**This role is fixed term for 1 year to cover maternity leave**
This is an exciting opportunity, for an experienced Infection Prevention and Control Nurse or an experienced registered nurse willing to learn the role, to join the award winning, innovative North Yorkshire Community Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT). We are a friendly, dynamic team with a proactive approach to infection prevention and control. The post holder will be an active member of the team and key duties will include working with IPC colleagues to prevent, investigate and control infection within North Yorkshire Health and Social Care settings, e.g. care homes and domiciliary care.
A large part of the role will be providing infection prevention and control advice, guidance and education to health care staff and patients to prevent the spread of healthcare associated infections including respiratory viruses. The post will include collaborative working with colleagues in infection prevention and control, the ICS and Local Authorities.

Main duties of the job
- Provide advisory and clinical input to facilitate and continuously improve quality infection prevention and control care for patients in the community including care homes and domiciliary care.
- Provide specialist clinical advice, support and counselling for patients, relatives and the general public on community infection prevention and control issues.
- Provide advice on infection prevention and control practices including outbreak management.
- Investigate outbreaks of healthcare associated infection, with particular reference to their source and mode of spread.
- Provide nursing advice to those patients with alert organisms e.g. difficile , PVL, MRSA.
- Use assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation skills to provide individualised care.
- Establish effective partnerships with patients and their families and act as the patient's advocate to ensure their needs are met appropriately.
- Provide advice on individualised patient care based upon the principles of evidence based practice.
- Recognise, investigate and take the necessary action to resolve HCAI issues.
- Actively encourage patients to be involved in service developments, continuously seeking feedback to guide improvements.
- Identify potential infection hazards for patients, staff, equipment or procedures.
