An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Bank Immunisation Nurse to join Somerset SAINT (school aged immunisation nursing team) to support the team when required. Somerset SAINT is responsible for the delivery of immunisations to school aged children.

The successful candidate will work as part of a mixed skills team delivering vaccinations to designated cohorts of school age children in school and other community settings. Somerset SAINT vaccinates in schools and community settings across Somerset and therefore successful candidates will be required to travel to across the county.

This is an opportunity to put your clinical registration to great use. You will ideally possess some knowledge about Immunisation programmes, Public Health Activity, safeguarding children and young people. For further information please read the job description and person specification.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working as part of the Somerset-wide school aged immunisation team (SAINT), facilitating and delivering vaccinations to school-aged children as part of the national vaccination programmes. This currently includes the nasal flu vaccine, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Meningococcal ACWY and the teenage Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio booster.

Working as part of a mixed-skills team delivering vaccinations to designated cohorts of school age children in school and other community settings.

Working to ensure national and local targets are met, meeting key point indicators and the requirement of the contract.

Offering immunisation support and advice to children, school and parents as required.

Helping to shape and deliver the service to ensure 100% offer in each programme working innovatively to meet hard to reach children e.g. elective home educated children.

There is a requirement to work with vulnerable children and families in line with national and local policies relating to safeguarding children and to provide specialist support and advice to children, families and schools regarding the health and wellbeing of children.

Working in partnership with other agencies, particularly the education and the public health nursing teams.

Working creatively providing information to children, young people and their families, pre and post vaccination through health promotion and information sessions primarily in schools and communities.
