Job summary

Fire Safety Management and management of the Fire Safety Team across MFT, including North Manchester Hospital.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring the Trust Board has appropriate assurances that the requirements of current fire safety legislation are met across the Trust and, where appropriate, that the objectives of Firecode are met
  • Co-ordinating fire safety issues throughout the organisation's activities.
  • Overseeing day-to-day implementation of the fire safety policies.
  • Managing the fire safety teams across the Trust including North Manchester Hospital.
  • Ensuring all new construction and renovation works taking place across the Trust, including North Manchester Hospital, are compliant with Building Regulations and HTM Guidance with regards to fire safety.
  • Ensuring Helipad operations are compliant with CAA recommendations and the facility is manned and operational during programmed hours

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Science or engineering based education to diploma level or equivalent or practical experience in fire safety work environment.
  • Membership of a professional organisation (i.e. Institute of Fire Engineers IFE; Institute of Fire Prevention Officers IFPO).
  • A number of years' experience of operating in a management role.
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries to improve standards.
  • Experience of working with external agencies.
  • Experience of applying HTM fire safety guidance in a hospital environment.
  • Experience of reviewing Business Continuity plans.
  • Science, engineering or fire engineering / fire safety diploma, CIPFA qualification or attendance at SFPO course or equivalent.


Desirable

  • Qualified Fire Brigade inspecting Officer.
  • IOSH general certificate or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order).
  • Knowledge on the application of Building Regulations.
  • Experience in undertaking fire risk assessments.

  • Able to interact effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Possess the management skills and ability to maximise resource utilisation.
  • Possess keyboard skills, ability to produce reports.
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, identify necessary action, make recommendations and ensure actions are implemented.

Essential

  • Highly motivated and resourceful with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and manage fire safety matters & compliance matters within the Trust.
  • Ability to make own judgments having taken into account the relevant legislation and guidance.
  • The ability to motivate others to deliver sometimes challenging outcomes.
  • Holds a current driving license.
