Job summary

The Asbestos Surveyor post sits within the EFCD (Estates, Facilities & Capital Development) department in the Compliance team.

This is an exciting time to join UHS as the organisation has a very proactive approach to improving its accommodation and facilities for both patients and staff and as such are looking for a motivated and dynamic person to join the EFCD Compliance team dealing with all aspects of asbestos management, leading on surveying, and inspections.

Job responsibilities

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WHAT YOULL DO

The main responsibility will be to carry out asbestos surveys across the all the Trusts premises and assist the department in maintaining and updating the Asbestos Register and supporting all departments within the organisation to manage asbestos related issues and ensure that all works provide value for money, provide on quality, customer satisfaction and meet statutory and legal obligations. To support career development this post will also support health & safety activities within EFCD, full training will be given if needed.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
You will be qualified with the BOHS P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings, be able to work using your own initiative, have excellent communication and written skills and will assist in monitoring contractors performance ensuring timescales are met, they offer value for money, and comply with current legislation.

Person Specification

Qualifications / training required

Essential

  • BOHS P402 Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings qualification or equivalent
  • Educated to degree level or demonstratable equivalent level of expertise and knowledge obtained from previous relevant experience in this field


Desirable

  • BOHS P403/P404 or P405
  • NEBOSH NGC or equivalent health and safety qualification
  • Provide evidence of CPD


Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Pre-existing experience of working within the asbestos industry as an asbestos surveyor
  • Working knowledge of HSG264 & HSG248
  • Practical experience of facilitating change in practice and service delivery
  • Manage and prioritise own workload effectively
  • An understanding of the principles of risk assessments
  • Ability to interpret data on construction drawings


Desirable

  • Ability to assess the efficiency of training programmes


Aptitudes and skills required

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills ability to communicate with staff at all levels and external bodies
  • Able to influence and negotiate realistically with colleagues at all levels
  • Commitment to team working and respect and consideration for the skill of others
  • Need good computer and IT skills including knowledge of spreadsheet database and word processing programmes
  • Must be able to create simple database/spreadsheet programmes
  • Health and Safety Management and duties of care required for our patients, staff, visitors and other contractors


Desirable

  • Training - training groups of managers and employees
  • An understanding of Fire Safety and fire compartmentation
  • High level of ability to process detailed information and to prioritise sometimes conflicting information and be able to present this in a simplistic way for non technical staff
