Band 6 - Specialist Cardiac Physiologist / Healthcare Scientist

Due to the introduction of the EP service, also with furthering development of the complex Echocardiogram and Devices services we have an exciting opportunity for a Specialised Cardiac Physiologist to join our busy, progressive unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. This post is ideal for an experienced Cardiac Physiologist wanting to develop existing skills in invasive and non-invasive investigations or perhaps returning to work from a career break.

With sixteen Cardiologists across the Worcestershire County, the Cardiopulmonary department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital provide a comprehensive range of Cardiology invasive and non-invasive investigations including: Echocardiograms, TOE, Devices/Pacemaker/ILRs and follow-up, Primary PCI, Physiologist supervised Exercise Tolerance Testing & Tilt Table testing, Stress echo service and EP service.

We can offer the successful candidate full support in working towards BSE and/ or IBHRE/BHRS accreditation.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the PPCI on-call rota and will be required to work as part of a 7 day service.

The post holder will be based at Worcestershire Royal Hospital but may be required to work on other Trust sites. Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust comprises of 3 hospitals: The Alexandra Hospital, Worcestershire Royal Hospital, and Kidderminster Treatment Centre.

Main duties of the job

invasive PCI service based in the Cardiac Catheter lab, monitoring of cardiac haemodynamic, invasive intra-cardiac pressures on clinically high risk Cardiac patients.

perform as lead Physiologist in Cardiac Physiologist led Exercise Tolerance Tests. (ETTs) Without supervision, analyse and report the results of the procedure, in accordance with national and departmental protocols and procedures.

Provide Physiologist support during complex devices/permanent pacemaker and implantable loops implants. Analyse complex data and recognise when to re-programme appropriate parameters as per manufacturer and departmental policies and protocols for individual patients at device/pacemaker follow up clinics.

Prepare, hook up, remove, download, analyse the recordings, providing written reports on 24 hr Ambulatory ECG recorders, Blood Pressure recorders and Cardiac Event recorders, according to the departmental procedures and protocols.

Perform Electrocardiograms on all categories of patients within the trust. Interpret the results and inform the relevant Physician of any adverse abnormalities, as per the departmental protocol and procedure.

Responsible for setting up equipment, preparing and carrying out Tilt table testing for medically and Physiologist supervised investigations.

Provide Physiologist support as part of a 7 day service, which will include occasional weekend working

Job responsibilities

Key Duties:

Clinical:

Undertake a Specialised Physiologists role in the invasive PCI service based in the Cardiac Catheter lab. Perform unsupervised monitoring of cardiac haemodynamic, invasive intra-cardiac pressures on clinically high risk Cardiac patients. Alerting Physician immediately of any changes in parameters. Including preparation and management of balloon pump equipment for insertion of intra-aortic balloon.

Designated responsibility to perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation on patients in an emergency situation.

Perform as lead Physiologist in Cardiac Physiologist led Exercise Tolerance Tests. (ETTs) Without supervision, analyse and report the results of the procedure, in accordance with national and departmental protocols and procedures.

Provide Physiologist support during Medically supervised ETTs and nuclear/chemical ETTs

Provide Physiologist support during complex devices/permanent pacemaker and implantable loops implants. Provide Physiologist support for EP studies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Clinical Physiology or equivalent


Desirable

  • BSE accreditation
  • HR UK Accreditation
  • SCST (parts 1 & 2) or equivalent


Experience

Essential

  • Significant relevant previous experience as a Cardiac Physiologist.
  • Previous experience across a broad range of Cardiology investigations.
