o Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.o To support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.o To assist in developing an environment which supports the value of nursing care within the directorate.o To ensure the maintenance of high standards of patient care.o To assist the Band 6 in monitoring the work of the nursing team, evaluating the effectiveness of care/treatment.o To support patients case management throughout the perioperative period.o To be aware of and demonstrate practice based on current advances in nursing.o To ensure the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness.o To assist the endoscopist in all aspects of endoscopic procedures on and off the department, this may involve assisting the 24 hour on call rota within ABUHB.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as an advocate for patients and their significant others.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate/standards for documentation, including IT data collection and input.
  • Responsible for dealing with patients with disability, special needs, learning difficulties and also acting as a resource for junior staff with these patients.
  • To assist the team leader to effectively manage a designated clinical area in line with ABUHB requirements using a problem solving approach.
  • Ensure BSG Guidelines regarding disinfection of endoscopes and safe sedation of patients is adhered to.

  • Communicate with all nursing and medical staff at all levels.
  • Ensure all unit equipment, endoscopes and accessories are maintained and used safely and correctly.
  • To ensure all accidents, incidents and complaints are reported and to assist in the investigation of them.
  • To foster positive collegial relationships with members of the interdisciplinary team
  • To assist the Team Leader in undertaking staff appraisals, ensuring all staff have personal reviews and development plans being cognisant of service needs.
  • To take responsibility in the absence of the band 6.
  • To ensure safe and efficient staffing levels by assisting in the appropriate planning of duty rotas.
  • To assist the Band 6 control allocated budget, ensuring the best service is provided within the resources available.
