We are looking for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in the field of adult acquired communication and swallowing disorders. This post is based within stroke services at Fairfield General Hospital with opportunities to work in a busy Primary Stroke Centre within hyper-acute, acute in-patient rehabilitation wards.

Main duties of the job

You will be a HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist with excellent knowledge of up to date assessment and treatment procedures for the adult population. You will demonstrate highly specialised knowledge, skills and experience, assessing, diagnosing and managing patients on the caseload. You will have comprehensive experience working in the specialist field of stroke. You will be competent to work independently with adults with dysphagia and highly complex communication issues.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our committed and enthusiastic team. You will work alongside other Highly Specialist and Specialist Speech and Language Therapy colleagues in stroke and be able to work with Speech and Language Therapy Assistants.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Speech & Language Therapy Degree


Desirable

  • MSc or advanced qualification of equivalent
  • Relevant post graduate course


Registration

Essential

  • RCSLT registered
  • HCPC registered


Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Experience working with people who have CVA
  • Post basic training in dysphagia
  • Substantial dysphagia experience
  • In depth anatomical and physiological knowledge of the swallow
  • Independent videofluoroscopy practitioner
  • Substantial experience and confidence training others
  • Knowledge of national policies/guidelines/drivers relevant to Greater Manchester Stroke network
  • In depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions (relevant to the client group) and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits
  • Experience working with people with complex needs within an MDT
  • Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
  • Experience contributing to multi-disciplinary policy/protocol development
