Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic band 6 Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Nurse to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team!
This is a development post which will lead to you gaining a formal infection prevention and control qualification if you do not already have one. You will work across the Bristol and Weston to improve infection prevention and control practice and reduce hospital acquired infections. You will support the Lead Infection Prevention and Control Nurse in delivering the infection control agenda at a local level. You must have a passion for patient safety and the infection prevention and control agenda.
Our Infection Prevention and Control Team is multi professional, consisting of the Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC); the Deputy DIPC and microbiologists; infection prevention and control nurses and an antimicrobial pharmacist.
You will support the provision of infection prevention and control advice and education to the Trust and support the team in managing key infection control improvement initiatives. You will be a key member of the team providing a clinically knowledgeable and responsive service. You will develop skills in managing change and will demonstrate excellent interpersonal abilities.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work and develop in a small team within a multiple speciality acute healthcare setting caring for adults and paediatrics.
Main duties of the job
The Infection Prevention and Control team provides specialist infection prevention and control advice and support to all clinical and non-clinical services across University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS foundation Trust. The infection prevention and control nurse is a key member of the team.
The post holder will be based across both the Bristol and Weston sites and contribute to the seamless infection prevention and control service working as part of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist support and advice across the organisation to staff, patients and visitors. There will be a requirement to be flexible and cover a 7 day service.
They will assess patients, plan, implement care and maintain associated records. Carry out specialist nursing procedures and provide supervision to staff in a range of settings.
They will assist in the development of policies and guidelines, relevant research, audits and projects in order to develop and maintain an effective infection prevention and control service.

- RGN 1st Level qualification with at least three years post registration experience
- Current NMC Registration
- 1st Degree in nursing or health related subject, willing to undertake/working towards
- Relevant accredited post registration qualification at Level 5
