Job summary

This is a career changing opportunity for either a medical consultant or a non-medical professional.

You'll have the skill to operate across organisations with sound understanding of the NHS & Local Authority agendas, working with system partners & acting as a conduit between MFT & public health teams in Manchester, Trafford & the wider ICS, identifying future population health priorities.

With a high level of tact and diplomacy with an understanding other culture to enable effective working across organisational boundaries, skilful influencing will be imperative to your success in this role.

Main duties of the job

  • Inclusion on either the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Voluntary Register (UKVR) for Public Health Specialists is essential, with strong interpersonal skills & personal credibility, you'll quickly gain the confidence of & build relationships with others, including managers, clinicians, and colleagues at all levels.
  • A strategic thinker with proven leadership skills, you'll lead the communication, dissemination, implementation & delivery of national, regional & local policies; developing interagency and interdisciplinary strategic plans and programmes, with delegated authority to deliver key public health targets.
  • Innovative and creative in your approach, you'll develop & maintain a strong interface with senior leaders within the Trust to ensure synergy between the corporate agenda & Population Health, identifying opportunities for implementing new ways of working or ways of improving services.
  • Knowledgeable in methods of developing clinical quality assurance, quality improvement & evidence based clinical and/or public health practice, you'll provide expert advice to support evidence-based provision, prioritisation of services for the population (and in some circumstances, for the individual) to maximise opportunities for health improvement.
  • Importantly, you'll demonstrate MFT values & behaviours & strive to continuously set & maintain the highest standards for both yourself & your team, motivating & inspiring others to achieve these.

Person Specification

Qualifications - Academic / Professional

Essential

  • Inclusion in the GMC/GDC Specialist Register or UK Voluntary Register (UKVR) for Public Health Specialists
  • If included in the GMC/GDC Specialist Register in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health medicine practice
  • Public health specialist registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UKVR must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within six months of gaining entry at the date of interview
  • MFPH by examination, by exemption or by assessment
