Job summary
Staff Nurse, Emergency Department - Band 5 (Permanent - min 6m post registration experience) Full & part time hrs available (min of 23 hrs per week)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a UK NMC Registered Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Weston Emergency Department. With the merging of Weston General Hospital & University Hospitals Bristol we are working in partnership to deliver high quality emergency care to our local population. We are able to offer permanent full time 37.5 hours per week and part time hours.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high quality and safe care to patients. Here in the Emergency Department, we strive to give patients the right care at the first point of contact.
Our Emergency Department team sees approximately 55,000 patients per annum; needless to say it can be a very busy but rewarding department! You will be joining an experienced team delivering a full range of minor injury and urgent care services. We operate a 24 hour rotating shift pattern.
You will be well supported through both a Trust & local induction - we are proud to offer a comprehensive educational programme through our Practice Development team.

Main duties of the job
- Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in providing compassionate care for patients, visitors/relatives and colleagues.
- Work cohesively with all members of the ward team and promote effective liaison with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times.
- Communicate effectively within the team, participate in motivating and supporting team members and maintain confidentiality with patients and carers. Give written and verbal advice/teaching to patients and carers.
- Take charge of the clinical needs of a group of defined patients on the ward /department prioritising workload according to changing clinical need over a 24 period.
- Ensure nursing documentation is maintained, accurate and timely in line with the Trust standard
- To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. To work towards promoting this to others.
- Promote and maintain a safe environment for patient:
- Administer medicines in accordance with Trust policy.
- Maintain, update and develop personal and professional knowledge and skills by participating in the Trust's appraisal and review processes.
- Participate in staff education and development, including utilising appropriate learning opportunities and to act as a mentor and resource for student nurses, adaptation and unqualified members of the nursing team.
