In-patient Ortho-Geriatric and Frailty Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist

Part-time position 0.8WTE. Flexible working or other part time hours would be considered.

Are you are a motivated Band 5 Occupational Therapist looking to progress and build further knowledge and skills in Ortho-Geriatric and Frailty Rehabilitation?

We are looking to recruit a part time Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our in-patient therapy team at Haslemere Community hospital in Surrey. We are a friendly and experienced team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistants. We work with people, with a wide range of complex conditions, who require further rehabilitation prior to being discharged home or to suitable alternative environments. We are an integral part of the MDT and work closely together to plan discharges.

We will support you to attain competencies in this field in order to progress to becoming a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist. You will be supported with regular clinical supervision and in service training.

We value the importance of continuous improvement culture across our teams to provide high quality care to our service users. You will be expected to contribute to the on-going development of clinical practice, standards, research as well as policies, protocols, guidelines and service development.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the inpatient therapy service, meeting the needs of a complex ortho-geriatric and frailty population. Our objective is to maximise the functional ability of people for the facilitation of safe discharges home or to suitable alternative environments. You will assess and treat people in the in-patient setting. You will assist the multi-disciplinary team by contributing to the planning, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy Service.

As a senior member of the team you will be responsible for providing education and support to Occupational Therapy students and other members of the team.

Currently the team operate a five day service, but in accordance with other services, seven day working is a possibility in the future.

Job responsibilities

The post holder assists in the development, administration and provision of a specialist Occupational Therapy service; carries a caseload dealing with complex assessment, and planning discharge of patients with predominantly physical conditions and with regard to the physical, emotional, psychosocial, spiritual and social aspects of their care.

Directly responsible for the management of own caseload of patients referred for Occupational Therapy assessment, rehabilitation and management within the multi-disciplinary team.

Assists in the management of the specialist team providing, developing and planning an Occupational Therapy service to patients for this client group.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy for people with a wide range of physical dysfunction.
  • Able to assess for and fit basic equipment to facilitate safe discharge.
  • Previous experience relating to specialist area.
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS and SS legislation.


Desirable

  • Able to assess for and fit complex equipment and teach patient/carer in the safe use of these.
  • Experience with community/mental health conditions.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/degree in OT by recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational therapists.
  • Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).


Desirable

  • An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT degree students.
  • Further qualifications/Study.
