Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Radiographer whois keen to train and specialise in the Nuclear Medicine Department here at Poole. This is a training posts starting at Band 5 but after an appropriate period of training has been undertaken and departmental competencies signed off, this post will be upgraded to a Band 6.

The Department provides a wide range of imaging, non-imaging and therapeutic radionuclide service based at Poole Hospital. This busy department is equipped with 2 Siemens Intevo Bold SPECT/CT scanners which were installed in the spring /summer of 2021.

The department is about to embark on SPECT/CT with contrast studies, beginning with Parathyroid scans. Tc99m PSMA scans are also about to start so, you would be joining the team at an exciting, innovative time.

The Department also supports a progressive cardiac imaging service with Radiographer lead stressing and Radiographer reporting of the cardiac scans with full training given. It is looking to expand its' range of therapeutic services in the future, currently I123 , I131 and Radium therapies are undertaken. Staff training is fully supported ,as are clinical development, audit, research and attendance at meetings and conferences.

Main duties of the job

The work will involve preparation and administration of patient doses, patient handling and carrying out a wide range of imaging and non-imaging tests using gamma cameras and other special equipment. Work will also involve occasional participation in the QA program of the gamma cameras and radioactive waste disposal and transport procedures. As this is initially a training post full supervision and training will be given in all required areas.

You will be a qualified Radiographer, registered with HCPCand hold a current UK driving licence. Appointment will be in the range of Band 5 and will be upgraded after an appropriate period of supervision, training and competency sign off to Band 6.

The post is for a 37.5 hour week, presently over 5 days. After the training period, there may be the option to work the 37.5 hours over 4 longer days and have a day off in the week. The normal place of work will be Poole Hospital but there are some duties (sentinel node injections) that, until full UHD merger has taken place, are undertaken at RBH site.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Radiography degree in diagnostic imaging or equivalent
  • State registered as a Radiographer with HCPC or equivalent national registration


Desirable

  • Post-graduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine


Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Able to work using own initiative once full training received, and as part of a team


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in Radiology with a desire to specialise in Nuclear medicine.
  • Willingness to undergo a period of training to lead to relevant competencies being met
  • Working knowledge of RIS and PACS systems


Desirable

  • Some experience of participating in clinical audits and/or compliance audits
