This unique clinical post is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated general nurse to develop as a clinical specialist in sickle cell and thalassaemia. The post holder would be part of a small team based at Wood Street Health Centre, and their role would cover all aspects of delivering care to those affected and their families alongside a multidisciplinary team of professionals across the Health, Education and Social Care Sectors in Waltham Forest.

Main duties of the job

To provide safe practice to all patients referred to the Community Haemoglobinopathy Team and liaise with Primary and Secondary Care Practitioners regarding the medical management of patients with sickle cell and thalassaemia.

To provide specialist advice to colleagues working in other clinical areas and act as the patient's advocate.

To instigate and maintain communication flows both within NELFT and other stake holders, regarding on-going care for patients.

Work with colleagues to develop the service which focuses on self-management of the condition and the prevention of exacerbation of sickle cell and thalassaemia to reduce the incidences of acute episodes requiring admissions to secondary care.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of �4,313 and a maximum payment of �5,436 per annum pro rata).
