Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic Senior Matron to join our Site Operations Team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals Trust to lead the team. This role will be pivotal to the next chapter of Site Operations.
Site Operations is the nerve Centre of the Hospital and is ultimately responsible for patient flow within the Trust. The team works with the wider hospital 24/7 to achieve key targets including Emergency Access, 4-hour targets and waiting lists. The work is varied and fast paced where no two days are the same.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, influential, and forward-thinking Senior Matron who can bring enthusiasm and energy to the role within the Operations Centre. The Senior Matron role requires flexibility, resilient leadership, exceptional communication together with a proven track record.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with all members of the Trust and take a leading role in Site Operations, Governance, and improvement. Clinical leadership will be central to the role and the post holder will be responsible for ensuring focus is on patient care, safety, and the journey throughout for all those attending the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
The working arrangements are Monday to Friday, with at least 10% of time in clinical practice.

Job responsibilities
- Ensure all direct reports are up to date with organisational communication in terms of briefings and that regular team meetings are set up.
- Create an environment and culture in which Infection Prevention and Control is intrinsic to care delivery by setting and monitoring environmental standards and take action to ensure compliance to cleaning audits.
- To be accountable for the management and future planning of the Site Operations budgets, in line with Trust Financial policy, guidelines and performance indicators, including financial recovery planning.
- To support effective compliance with the Trust Escalation Policy and Trust Full Capacity Protocol.
- To lead the team who are the first point of contact for other NHS Trusts and agencies for all operational issues. This includes inter hospital transfers and requests for ambulance diverts.
- Act as a positive role model through the provision of effective professional leadership and demonstration of competent and accountable clinical practice.
- Maintain a consistent, visible, high profile in areas of responsibility ensuring accessibility for patients, family, carers and staff.
- Demonstrate a knowledge of contemporary clinical practice, explore new ideas and introduce positive, evidence based change in line with local and national initiatives e.g. NICE guidance
- Negotiate and adapt patient care to provide solutions to complex and unusual problems e.g. infection control out breaks and capacity management issues.
- Ensure that patient care is sensitive to the needs of the diverse population
- Develop and sustain appropriate relationships, partnerships and networks to influence and improve health outcomes.
- Analyse activity and financial data to support service development and growth
- Identify staffing and skill mix requirements using validated tools to assess acuity as required to ensure workforce is safe and fit for purpose
