We have an opportunity for a knowledgeable Dietitian to inspire and lead the Paediatric Diabetes service at Medway Hospital. This is a fixed term post to cover maternity leave for 1 year.

We are recruiting for a Paediatric Diabetes Dietitianwho shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful postholder will be working within the paediatric diabetes multi-disciplinary team to provide a clinical service to paediatric diabetes patients in an outpatient and inpatient setting.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate paediatric diabetes dietitian to work as part of the MDT at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. This is well established service offering care to both in and outpatient setting. This post will require you to work alongside the diabetes MDT and will provide a variety of experiences of working directly with patients/parents, close collaboration with other professionals, involvement in education and teaching and quality improvement initiatives.

In addition you will have the support of a very collaborative, fun and engaged dietetic team and therapies department, to develop and implement an advanced paediatric service.

The role is flexible for the postholder to develop in the direction they feel is appropriate for the trust and service.

Job responsibilities

This is an opportunity for an expert autonomous Dietitian to develop and contribute to the delivery and service improvement of the paediatric diabetes service provided to Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

To be responsible for providing and running the expert dietetic care for paediatric diabetes caseload on paediatric wards and outpatient clinics

To develop and review standards, policies, resources and other improvement activities relating to the specialist services associated within paediatrics, diabetes, within the Dietetic profession and across the Trust.

To supervise and develop more junior staff

To take a leading role in carrying out specialist assessments, evidence-based treatment and management of paediatric diabetes patients who may present with complex and /or chronic health needs that require specialist support and advice.

To be recognised as an expert source of knowledge in the field of paediatric diabetes dietetics, leading on development of clinical guidelines, resources and education packages.

Provide education and support in the nutritional management of paediatric diabetes patients to parents, carers and the wider MDT

To support the wider Dietetic and Diabetes teams during periods of increased demand and play an active role in the supervision and learning of others, including student placements.

Person Specification



  • Degree / Post graduate diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Current HCPC registration Membership of the BDA
  • Specialist BDA Paediatric Postgraduate Training



  • Significant post graduate clinical experience relevant to role
  • Demonstrable experience of working with a variety of clinical specialities and a range of population groups
  • Experience of dietetic care of paediatric diabetes patients



  • Knowledge of dietetic care of children with diabetes
  • Knowledge of working with glucose monitoring, insulin including pumps
  • Understanding of clinical governance relevant to role


  • Knowledge of dietetic care of children with complex conditions



  • IT competent
  • Ability to develop dietetic resources
  • Teaching/Presentation Skills
