The Macmillan Speech and Language Therapist will work in a senior specialist therapy role as an integral member part of the wider locality based multidisciplinary Macmillan Palliative and Supportive Care team. This role may include weekend and Bank Holiday working if required.
The post holder will provide specialist advice to support the assessment, planning and implementation of individual programmes of care providing clinical expertise, leadership and support for generic community staff and wider team members working in the Integrated Neighbourhood Teams to deliver locally driven high quality care, responsive to patient and carers' needs.
The post holder will provide specialist supportive and palliative rehabilitation and care to enhance quality of life for patients and carers with complex physical, psychological and emotional needs. This includes education of other health care professionals, training, support and advice for the multidisciplinary team. The focus of the multidisciplinary approach will be to support patients and carers to live well, prevent inappropriate hospital admission and meet their preferred priorities for care.
The post holder will provide specialist supportive andpalliative rehabilitation and care to enhance quality of life for patients and carers with complex physical, psychological and emotional needs. This includes education of other health care professionals, training, support and advice for the multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
Macmillan Speech and Language Therapist (Community) Band 7
An exciting opportunity has arisen in our city wide Manchester Macmillan Palliative Support Service for a Macmillan Speech and Language Therapist based at our Longsight/Wythenshawe Macmillan Hubs.
The post holder will work as part of the Macmillan Specialist multi-disciplinary team comprising of Medics, Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Nurses, another Speech and Language Therapist and Assistant Practitioners. The team aims to provide effective support palliative care and/or rehabilitation to patients with a life limiting condition requiring palliative intervention. The service operates 7 days per week 8:30 to 5. Allied Health Professionals currently don't cover the service on Weekends or Bank Holidays but may support the team to cover these shifts occasionally.
The post holder will work across the city of Manchester and will provide supportive palliative care to enhance the quality of life for patients / carers with any life limiting illness requiring some curative interventions and palliative care, including complex physical, psychological and emotional needs.
Recent investment in palliative care has enabled the service todevelop substantially for the city of Manchester thisis anexciting time to join our innovative and expanding team.
This role requires the postholder to undertake duties within a care home setting.
