Job summary

We asked our stroke therapy team what is the best thing about working with us and their response was that they feel inspired, passionate, fully supported and it is never boring!

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals has been designated the newly appointed Comprehensive Stroke Centre for the region. Following this there has been investment within our service to allow us to deliver 6 and 7 day working helping us to improve our SSNAP performance but most importantly to deliver the therapy our patients deserve.

As the successful applicant, you will work flexibly across both the acute stroke unit at Royal Preston Hospital including the HASU and ambulatory care and the stroke rehab unit at Chorley Hospital. You work closely with our community partners to ensure seamless transfer of care.

If you feel that neuro is your thing or if you are unsure about what direction you want to move in, we can offer you all the support and learning opportunities you need and a really thorough induction. The best thing about our service is that no day is the same. So if you're not sure yet, this role will give you the opportunity to have a go at everything!!

Main duties of the job

Daily life on our busy, fast paced wards at RPH and CDGH will give you the opportunity to develop your specialist skills in assessment, clinical decision making and early rehab of acute patients with a stroke condition. You will establish close working links with the wider MDT and have active involvement in training and development of yourself and of others.

You will have excellent assessment, decision making and communication skills to enhance your working relationships and interactions with patients.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • oOccupational Therapy degree/diploma
  • oHPC Registration


Desirable

  • oPractice placement educator
  • oBobath
  • oBraintree - cognitive rehabilitation
  • oCore People Management or equivalent training


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • oKnowledge in the assessment and treatment of stroke and neuro rehabilitation
  • oCurrent knowledge of evidence based practice in stroke
  • oExperience in the management of stroke and neuro rehabilitation
  • oWide ranging experience of rotational areas with transferable skills
  • oKnowledge of the current agendas in stroke care


Desirable

  • oExperience of audit implementation and analysis of results.
  • oExperience of supervision of others
  • oInvolvement in service development


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to manage a complex caseload and to problem solve complex cases
  • Ability to work as a member of, and negotiate within, the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to use and advise on therapeutic handling techniques
  • Developed clinical reasoning skills
  • Knowledge of the current NHS Modernisation Agenda
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in the training and development of staff
