Main duties of the job

Working shifts as a bank registered mental health nurse across wards and departments as part of the multidisciplinary team, in a variety of clinical settings to deliver the highest quality care to our patients, in line with our trust values

As an accountable registered mental health nurse you will be responsible for delivering excellent care to allocated patients providing mental health care and support, for each clinical area you work on.

Clinical duties, across a range of clinical settings, include providing one to one enhanced care for patients requiring support and supervision including patients waiting mental health assessment, psychosis, dementia and delirium care.

We offer a variety of bank shifts both days, nights and weekends across all our sites with competitive hourly rates. Our long day and night shift are paid at 11.5 hours.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is responsible for assessing, planning and implementingpatient care, whilst ensuring that the Trusts World class Care values aremet

Maintain a safe environment in the ward/department with particularreference to infection control and the safety and welfare of patients,visitors and other staff members

Provide 1:1 specialist care to individual patients (when required)Maintain care records and other relevant documentation adhering toNMC/Trust record keeping legislation, guidelines and policy

Maintain patient confidentiality

Prioritise own workload and meet set deadlines

Maintain best practice, ensuring compliance with evidence based practice and research

Communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, patients and their carers

Maintain skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and the Trusts policies and procedures

Experience

Essential

  • 6 months experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, or possess a nationally recognised preceptorship qualification
  • Knowledge and experience of working with patients experiencing mental health problems in an inpatient setting
  • To have the experience of providing 1:1 care to individual patients as necessary
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary team working

  • Interest in learning and developing advanced practical and clinical skills relevant to the specialty
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can demonstrate a good understanding of good customer care
