Applications are invited for a full time Specialty Doctor (10 Programmed Activities) fixed term (1 year) post in Sexual Health/HIV based at the Jefferiss Wing, St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. You will join a multidisciplinary team of Consultants, Specialty doctor and associate specialists, Specialist trainees, GP trainees, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Pharmacists in the Sexual Health and HIV department. The post holder will be expected to participate predominantly in Sexual Health outpatient services and will have the training and experience necessary to provide a full range of integrated sexual health and reproductive care services. An ability to support elements of the HIV outpatient service is desirable. This is a 10PA vacancy with a weekday evening clinic, but no on-call or weekend commitments at the present time.

The post holder will be encouraged to develop a relevant specialist interest under the direction of the Heads of Specialty for Sexual Health and HIV according to the needs of the service. They will contribute to the leadership of the outpatient clinical team, education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other healthcare professionals and to the development and support of clinical research. They will participate in clinical governance and service development activities and will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams.

Main duties of the job

The vacancy consists of 10Pas for a 1 year fixed term. The post holder will undertake mainly Sexual Health outpatient duties including Core Sexual Health and LARC clinics (IUT) and an evening Sexual Health clinic on a weekday. There will be no on-call or weekend commitments at the present time. The post holder will at times be the designated supervising senior on the clinic floor and will support and clinically supervise junior clinical staff members and manage patient flow across the Sexual Health clinic.

The post holder will also play a role in clinical leadership, education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff (including a key role in induction) and other healthcare professionals. They will participate in service development, clinical governance and development and support of clinical research.

The successful candidate will work as a Specialty Doctor (10PA) in a busy and dynamic Sexual health and HIV service based at the Jefferiss Wing, St Marys Hospital, Paddington. The post holder will join a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality sexual health and HIV services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. They will participate predominantly in Sexual Health outpatient services (mainly Core Sexual Health and LARC) and provide support and clinical supervision to the junior members of the clinical team. They will additionally contribute to the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff and other healthcare professionals, will play an active role in service development, clinical governance and support of clinical research.

Education/ qualifications Higher qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment with a license to practice
  • Equivalent of at least 4 years' full-time postgraduate training of which at least 2 years are within HIV/GUM ST level [minimum of ST2 level competency achieved
  • DFFP/DFRSH
  • LOC in IUD/IUS/implant insertion


Desirable

  • Successful completion of MRCP (UK) or equivalent at time of application
  • MD, PhD
  • DipGUM


Academic achievements including research/publications

Essential

  • Research Skills: Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management & evidence-based practice.
  • Understanding of basic research principles, methodology & ethics, with potential to contribute to research

  • Evidence of relevant academic & research achievements, e.g. degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, publications, presentations, other achievements


Language

  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements


Clinical expertise in Specialty/sub specialty

Essential

  • Able to manage unselected sexual health clinic patients including complex STI presentations and reproductive healthcare
  • Able to support and clinically supervise junior clinical staff
  • Able to prioritise clinical need and coordinate patient flow across the Sexual Health service
  • Proven ability to work effectively in the outpatient settings required in the post


Desirable

  • Experience of assessing emergency outpatient presentations of HIV positive patients
