An opportunity to join the Leadership team on 4 South for a band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge nurse. 4 South is a 36-bedded Respiratory Ward. We fundamentally specialise in Cystic Fibrosis, Lung Defence and Pulmonary Vascular Disease, but we do see other respiratory specialities on the ward such as Interstitial Lung Disease, Thoracic Oncology and Transplant. Alongside ward management the role entails managing a group of Registered Nurses and Assistant Practitioners to inspire them through role modelling clinical and professional excellence and supporting them in delivering an excellent patient experience.

We are looking for a proficient staff nurse with post registration experience. This post requires excellent communication skills, and tact and diplomacy are essential when dealing with patients and their relatives as well as other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

This is a time pressurised environment. You must be a team player who is well organised but flexible and who is able to deal with ever changing priorities. You will be able to demonstrate leadership skills and support the team in developing the services that we provide.

  • Post- registration cardiothoracic experience
  • Demonstrable evidence of mentoring and preceptorship
  • Managed clinical area in absence of more senior staff
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct and professional practice guidance
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and quality
  • Awareness of broader issues in the Trust and the wider NHS
  • Understanding of the professional nursing agenda
