There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse to be a Professional and Practice Development Nurse within Hywel Dda University Health Board. This is a permanent, full time position.

We are looking for a motivated Registered Nurse to join the 3 other Professional and Practice Development Nurses across our 4 acute hospital sites, under the Quality Improvement Team. The Band 6 post will be based in Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen.

This Professional and Practice Development Nurse will be contracted for 37.5 hours per week working Monday-Friday, with some flexible working patterns occasionally to suit the needs of the service

There will be an opportunity to negotiate retaining clinical hours within a relevant clinical setting if required.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the wider Quality Improvement Team, you will be working closely with the Glangwili Senior Nursing Team. You are required to contribute towards the development of nursing practice that meets the needs of patients, their families and the organisation.

Previous experience as a mentor or involvement with developing and delivering training and support is essential.Applicants will need to demonstrate effective facilitation skills that have achieved proven patient care improvements, and contributed towards the on-going professional and practice development of others.The post holder will need to communicate and work effectively with all grades and disciplines of staff. The ability to prioritise workload, think creatively to support innovation and have excellent organisational skills are very important for this role.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Level 1 Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Bachelors degree in appropriate/health-related subject
  • Postgraduate diploma in appropriate subject or equivalent level of experience
  • Extensive knowledge and application of NMC Code to practice/Guidance
  • Knowledge of quality Improvement methodologies and application to practice
  • Extensive knowledge and experience/understanding of collaborative practice
  • Understanding/experience of mentorship/clinical supervision/reflective practice/Coaching
  • Knowledge of the research process
  • Bronze IQT (Improving Quality Together)


Desirable

  • PGCE (or equivalent experience to postgraduate diploma level)
  • Attendance at International Practice Development School or equivalent
  • Facilitation/ Coaching programme
  • Recognised improvement accredited course e.g. Improvement in practice - Improvement Cymru
  • Clinical Supervision


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience including experience in a management/ leadership role
  • Evidence of previous contributions towards developing clinical practice
  • Experience of teaching and delivering educational programme using variety of methods and situations
  • Evidence of facilitating reflective practice
  • Experience and skills in clinical audit and using measurable outcomes to inform practice developments
  • Able to critically analyse audit findings/research and apply to practice
  • Evidence of broad spectrum of nursing experience
  • IT skills to include presentation packages


Desirable

  • Experience of developing and delivering educational programmes/curriculum design
  • A detailed understanding of the research process
  • Experience of developing and undertaking research projects
  • Publication of Academic Papers/ dissemination of practice developments
