As part of the new Mental Health contract awarded to Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust, we are excited to expand our prison mental health services and are looking for registered professionals to join us at HMP Hull Integrated Mental Health Team.

HMP Hull are looking for a Mental Health Clinical Lead to provide mental health care to patients. This role will be responsible for assessment and caseload management of those referred into Mental health services within HMP Hull, working as part of a stepped care model. You will be supporting your team to carry out comprehensive assessments, confidently communicating treatment options and initiating supportive care plans, and providing evidence-based interventions alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team.

As such, you will need excellent communication skills and a teamwork ethos.

Main duties of the job

You will either be a Registered Mental Health Nurse/ Social Worker/ Occupational Therapist. You'll have a flexible approach to working within a team that encourages new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.

You will have experience providing compassionate mental health care and have an understanding of the criminal justice system. You will make on going assessment of need reflecting individual circumstances and provide relevant interventions and input to discharge planning. You will be required to have strong coordination and planning skills, with the ability to make decisions based on comprehensive health and risk assessments.

You should be innovative, flexible and able to engage with patients with complex needs. You will be committed to a person-centred approach and have the ability to prioritise.

As well as team operational and clinical support and leadership, you will have access to professional specific support including an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Nurse Consultant and an Associate Director of Nursing.

HMP Hull is a Category B prison. The establishment serves all courts in the region and accepts prisoners on remand or sentenced by the courts. The predominant population is made up of remand prisoners in the early days of custody whilst engaging in the court processes.

Person Specification



  • RNMH,/RNLD or registered practitioner, current professional registration with NMC or relevant professional body.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education (within agreed timescales)
  • Clinical Supervisor (within agreed timescales).
  • Recognised sign-off mentor or must be achieved within agreed timescale.
  • Qualified practitioner in e.g. CBT, DBT, PSI, dual diagnosis etc. (within agreed timescale).


  • Leadership or management qualification



  • Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a community setting.
  • Working with external partners/team working
  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.


  • Experience working in the criminal justice system



  • Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Provide leadership and monitor, co-ordinate and prioritise the activities of a team.
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake care co-ordinator responsibilities
  • Knowledge of offender health clinical pathways
