Job summary

We are seeking post Foundation doctors or above to work full time as a Clinical Teaching Fellow to support undergraduate medical students at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. We have three full time teaching posts, starting next academic year, 2022/23, applicants must be available to start 30 August 2022.

The three post holders will work with the Medical School and the Trust to support delivery of undergraduate medical education and improve the undergraduate medical student experience.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of these posts is to support the Peninsula Medical School undergraduate medical students on the BMBS Programme. The posts will predominantly support year 3 and 4 medical students but may also provide teaching for year 5 students. The post holders will work with the three Pathway leads and the Clinical Liaison Team in the Medical School to support teaching across a range of specialties in the Trust, both medical and surgical. Post holders must be prepared to supervise medical students in a variety of clinical departments selected by the School. This will include teaching groups of 3 or 4 students on clinical placements in a variety of clinical areas, assessing student's clinical competencies, providing tutorials, clinical skills teaching, developing teaching materials and other resources and other activities related to the smooth running of the pathway weeks / placement blocks.

You must have completed a minimum of two years working in the NHS, be well organised with excellent interpersonal skills and have a genuine enthusiasm and interest in medical education.

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent.


Desirable

  • PG Cert / desire to work towards
  • College Examinations


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practise and up to date with revalidation.
  • Certificate of completion of Foundation Training +/- further training
  • Minimum 2 full years NHS experience
  • A sound knowledge of basic clinical sciences and the ability to apply this knowledge to clinical practice
  • Experience of teaching in any setting
  • Good IT skills


Desirable

  • Experience of online teaching / learning

  • Well organised with excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and liaison skills (verbal & written).
