Job summary

The post of Fundraiser (Public/Mass) is an important link between the hospital charity and the local community. The post holder will be responsible for managing public fundraising and mass participation special challenge events (including virtual events) and be an active member of the charity team in securing financial support from these areas of fundraising.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that fundraising ideas and events are in place that will have high profile and will generate funds to agreed targets. The post holder must be inventive and highly organised in order to initiate and then deliver highly successful events.

Working closely with groups and individuals, the ideal candidate will have an outgoing personality, keen for direct contact with people, good at motivating and self-confident.

Main duties of the job

  • Work to design, deliver and evaluate a public/mass fundraising programme.
  • Cultivate & develop relationships with the general public and other constituencies (runners, cyclists, swimmers, gamers, etc)
  • Manage and oversee the effective of the Trust Charity's lottery
  • Work to design, deliver and evaluate a public/mass events fundraising programme
  • Ensure that all events are costed, well-planned, marketed and generate income for the charity.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to support with events.
  • Contribute to annual budgets, targets and plans as agreed with the Head of Fundraising and Communications
  • Work with the charity's communications team on charities online giving pages to ensure their continued growth
  • Attend and assist at charity events
  • Use various communication methods to promote, motivate and persuade the public to participate in fundraising opportunities.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Public/Mass fundraising
  • Work to design, deliver and evaluate a public/mass fundraising programme.
  • Be the key liaison and account manage public/mass fundraisers, providing them with all the fundraising support they require, including provision of fundraising materials, attending events and providing advice and guidance.
  • Be the first point of contact for all public/mass fundraising enquiries and manage these empathically and professionally with the understanding that initial queries may involve volunteers sharing sensitive information around the reasons for wanting to fundraise.
  • Cultivate & develop relationships with the general public and other constituencies (runners, cyclists, swimmers, gamers, etc) and motivate them through compelling presentations to generate support for the charity.
  • Manage and oversee the effective of the Trust Charitys lottery, ensuring all legal and compliance requirements are met.
Public/Mass event fundraising
  • Work to design, deliver and evaluate a public/mass events fundraising programme in partnership with the wider charity team, which maximizes the potential of community groups, associations and clubs.
  • Ensure that all events are costed, well-planned, marketed and generate income for the charity.
  • Work with external companies and suppliers with coordinating and organising events where necessary.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to support with events.
  • Ensure that all events comply with the Fundraising Regulators Code of Practice and that all Health and Safety aspects are covered and that appropriate insurance cover is in place if an event has any risk element.
General Public/Mass fundraising
  • Contribute to annual budgets, targets and plans as agreed with the Head of Fundraising and Communications and contribute to the planning process for Public/Mass Fundraising.
  • Work with the charitys communications team on charities online giving pages to ensure their continued growth by promoting online giving to supporters and utilising the online giving websites to their full capabilities.
  • Attend and assist at charity events as directed by the Head of Fundraising and Communications these will include weekend and evening hours. Represent the charity positively and professionally at all times.
  • Be fully aware of the charitys fundraising activities, appeal plans and other charitable activities.
  • Understand and adhere to the data protection and freedom of information acts, including the new GDPR regulations.
Communication
  • Use various communication methods to promote, motivate and persuade the public to participate in fundraising opportunities.
  • Work closely with the charity Communications team to ensure all fundraising material is up to date and adheres to the Code of Fundraising Practice, and that all literature produced by the charity Communications team is met with charity approval.
  • Work with the charity communications team to ensure the work of public/mass fundraisers is communicated accurately and appropriately.
  • Work with the charity fundraising team to ensure public/mass fundraising related charity merchandise is stocked and distributed accordingly.
Administrative Public/Mass fundraising and events
  • Capture all public/mass fundraising and event-related supporter information within the charity database and maintain accurate records of these.
  • Ensure that accurate and up to date public/mass fundraiser records are maintained and are accessible, including event details, fundraising pages, and charity-supplied fundraising collateral such as collection tins is tracked.
  • Ensure that all data is handled confidentially and with regard to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), especially records relating to donors and volunteers.
Other duties
  • Maintain excellent, co-operative and supportive relationships with hospital staff, volunteers and staff from charities supporting the hospital.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role and delegated or requested by the manager or supervisor, as required.
Service Delivery and Improvement
  • Work to support the tracking of workplans, team income & expenditure of the mass/public events programme.
  • Support team procurement through effective use of Iproc including acting as a requisitioner for the Charity and Voluntary Serviced budget expenditure.
  • Ensure financial processing in the Charity and Voluntary Services team is undertaken in accordance with Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions and the authorised signatory list.
  • Promote a risk management culture within the working environment, ensuring participation and involvement of all staff, in line with the Trusts risk management strategy and policies.
Project management
  • Required to work with minimal supervision after initial induction and training.
  • Required to manage own priorities in line with the demands of the charity team.
  • Required to manage a range of delegated projects, sometimes working autonomously.

Learning and Development
  • Attend mandatory training updates

Person Specification

Essential

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent level of work experience
  • Knowledge of public/mass fundraising techniques
  • Excellent IT skills: Microsoft Office, Adobe design software or equivalent.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and effectively manage priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Highly developed verbal communication skills


Desirable

  • Qualification or equivalent experience in non-profit fundraising and business development; events management or any other relevant subject area
  • Experience working within an NHS or public sector organisation or equivalent large, complex organisation.
  • Fundraising Project Management Experience
  • Experience of risk management systems, e.g. DATIX or EVOTIX
  • Experience of running a lottery product
  • Willing to work at our Brighton, Worthing, Southlands and Chichester offices or remotely as required.
