An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Cytology Department at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB).

As one of only 8 labs in England delivering the NHSCSP HRHPV service, we are looking for a committed and enthusiastic addition to our team to fill the role of Specialist Biomedical Scientist.

Our ideal candidate will be a compassionate and approachable team player who would relish the opportunity to support our staff in achieving the best outcomes for our users. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills whilst continuing to actively participate in the NHSCSP and the delivery of the diagnostic cytology service.

Candidates with excellent IT skills and an understanding of the WinPath Enterprise Laboratory Management System, are positively encouraged to apply.

Individuals with cervical cytology screening experience in a band 5 role and have started their specialist portfolio will be considered in an annex 21 capacity whilst they are supported to completion of their specialist portfolio.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the day-to-day workload of the Cytology laboratory.
  • To primary screen and rapid review sufficient number of cervical smears per annum to achieve minimum target set by National Health Service Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP)
  • To management code and authorise HRHPV negative resulted samples.

To support a specified team, under the direction of a team leader, with the day to day running of that area to include maintaining and developing a safe and effective service for our users.
