Job summary

The post-holder is responsible for the design, continual development, implementation,performance, support, and operation of the Trust's data warehouse and reporting systems.This includes all aspects of data processing, data management, data structures (e.g.OLAP cubes) and front-end report development. Significant technical skills (including thefull Microsoft Business Intelligence stack) are required for this role.The post-holder will play a key role in the management of the trust's data held on an SQLServer Data Warehouse, and manage the performance of the Data Warehouse to supportthe business requirements of the Trust.The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining data completeness and accuracy byidentifying and analyzing data anomalies and instigating corrective action.The post-holder will be responsible for taking a lead in identifying any improvements in theData Warehouse Environment and assisting the Head of the Department in any futureimprovement strategies.The post-holder will be expected to have a good understanding of any future technologiesthat will help future-proof the Data Warehouse.

Main duties of the job

Warehouse and Report DevelopmentThe post-holder is responsible for the continuous development of the Trust's datawarehouse and reporting systems, including:Managing the Trust's Data Warehouses and related data feeds ensuring dataintegrity.Automating and scheduling routine data processing tasks using the SQL Servertechnology stack.Data migration between old and new infrastructure.Providing technical support to the wider teams within the trust in order to meetdepartment objectives.Provide support in the management of the Trust's data warehouses and relateddata feeds ensuring data integrity. Provide support in the management and delivery of complex technical databasedevelopments.Manage and deliver complex technical database developments.Design and development of online reports.Manage and develop underlying Data Warehouse structures to support the overalldepartment strategy.Ensuring all technical processes are documented.Designing and developing the Data Warehousing infrastructure to support thereporting needs of the TrustProviding specialist advice and guidance in the use of querying, reporting andanalysis tools and answering queries regarding any issues with data extracts anddata management processes.The Data Warehouse is developed using the Microsoft Business Intelligence stack andthe post-holder will need to be proficient in all related tools, including:MS T-SQLMS Integration ServicesMS Reporting ServicesMS Performance PointMS Power BIDatabase Administration

About us

The post-holder will attend weekly team meetings and relevant department meetings as directedwithin the organization. The post-holder will be expected to share their knowledge of bestpractices through these channels and over the course of their day-to-day work in order for theteam to reach collective goals.The post-holder may be required to attend external meetings and represent the trust at eventssuch as user groups (as required).The post-holder will be required to actively promote their output and the output of their teamcolleagues to a variety of hospital staff. Data AnalysisThe post-holder is required to understand the data collected by the Trust and the rulesaround linking separate datasets and using the data to produce information. This includes: Understanding how the Trust collects data. Understanding which systems are used to collect data and how the systems areused. Understanding how data flows throughout the Trust (e.g. between systems) andhow data is processed. Understanding and interpreting national guidance and data standards and applyingthis to transform data into information. Developing and modifying data and information management models andprocesses. Developing, documenting, and automating local data processing procedures totransform the organizations data into information. Implementing data processing procedures using SQL. Understanding and documenting data processing automation routines. Understanding and defining how data from different sources can be linked. Improving data quality by identifying issues with data input and identifying andcorrecting issues with data processing. Work with staff from the information and performance teams to support/deliver theautomation of all regular reports, ensuring that manual data processing isminimized. Increasing the number of staff accessing reporting systems on a weekly basis. Improving data quality by identifying issues with data input and identifying andcorrecting issues with data processing.Data Processing / Data ManagementThis includes the processing and management of data and information and ensuring thatdata flow appropriately through the data warehouse and includes:a) Undertaking, monitoring, and confirming that the following tasks are completed: Receiving data and information in a timely way Receiving data and information in a meaningful format Providing data and information at agreed times and in agreed formats processing data and information accurately to an appropriate level of detail in anagreed format Storing data and information securely Maintaining the currency of the data/information system Transmitting data/information in a way that maintains its confidentiality Ensuring that routine warehouse tasks (eg automated imports etc) have runsuccessfully. Ensuring routine central returns are submitted on time. Collating information packs (e.g. Board Report, performance reporting, SLAM) Complying with relevant legislation, policies, and proceduresb) Monitoring and confirming that appropriate systems, controls, and processes are inplace to: Maintain the efficient flow of information Assure the quality of processed data and information5c) Identifies and investigates problems and queries relating to data/information processingand management and takes the appropriate action in response Performing first-line fault finding where warehouse tasks have failed. Escalating complex faults and ensuring they are fixed.Database AdministrationThis includes Administrating the Trusts Data Warehouse. Checking Data Feeds are processed in a timely manner. Checking SSIS packages have come to completion General DBA dutiesData UsedThe Trust collects a wide range of data, and the post-holder will be expected to work onany of the data collected by the hospital, including: Patient demographics Referrals into services Patient contacts Patient attendances Hospital admissions and dischargesAnalysis ConductedThe Trust carries out a wide range of analysis of data and the post-holder will be expectedto undertake any analysis required, including: Activity Waiting times Costing Modeling Predictive analytics

Qualifications

Essential

  • proven working experience of datebase management and SQL
  • Proven experience in the construction, development and maintenance of a data warehouse
  • ETL and date migration experience
  • Proven experience in the use of reporting services
  • Significant experience of NHS/Healthcare Information
  • Proven experience in managing a date warehouse cluster enviroment
