Job summary

A new and exciting role, to provide specialist career coaching/employment advise to staff working within Diggory division. The post holder will provide group training and 1-2-1 career coaching which helps staff consider their career development. The role will help to improve progression amongst all staff groups but particularly those previously missed by existing professional development programmes. The offer will ensure each staff's journey is person centred by empowering them to be in control of their desired outcome.

The post can be based in either London or Milton Keynes, but will serve a Division that covers a wide geographical area. It will be a hybrid role as some of the work can be done online but there will be an expectation of regular travel with at least 2 days a week in other Diggory sites

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:
  • Ensure the provision is accessible to everyone who needs it and is delivered in line with the Trust core values
  • Work with the Diggory EDI Steering Group to encourage staff from protected characteristics to access employment support
  • Interventions would include options such as education, practice and experiential learning opportunities as well as employment inventions such as producing a CV, application form, expressions of interest, mock interview etc
  • Negotiate possible job tasters to increase awareness of roles available
  • Lead on promotion of the service which would include presenting at conferences, producing careers newsletter, resourcing materials, internal jobs fairs
  • Work in partnership with the Career Coach in Jameson Division, sharing good practice and providing peer support
  • Work in partnership with the Education team and 21stCentury Leadership programme to develop e-learning courses and/or workshops on career related personal development
  • Develop the service and provide regular reports
  • Work in partnership with the trust wide IPS Employment Service to learn from best practice
  • Work in partnership with Human Resources to develop pathways for internal vacancies, as well as ensuring a smooth internal transfers for staff at risk or being redeployed.

  • Coordinate processes and procedures to ensure a smooth transition to new role takes place whilst ensuring relevant deadlines are met and the information provided is comprehensive and accurate.

  • To facilitate support through HR colleagues to ensure advice to managers and employees is available in regards to staff terms and conditions issues.
  • To support Locality operational managers and HR Business Partners, with workforce and resource planning as appropriate
  • To ensure accurate activity data is maintained providing activity reports as required
  • Support the development and delivery of Locality resourcing plans as required
  • Assist in developing and implementing the new careers service
  • Facilitate sessions i.e. CV writing, application forms writing, interview skills and training for staff
  • Building relationships with other NHS employers to effectively access opportunities
  • To provide advice and support to managers, as agreed with the individual, which may include negotiating adjustments and on-going contact with supervisors to ensure job retention by resolving any difficulties that arise
  • Network and liaise to develop good working relationships with other organisations that are better able to help staff achieve their employment goals for example, local colleges, training providers, Disability Employment Advisers, Employment providers etc
  • To maintain a professional relationship with staff, with particular attention to confidentiality and maintenance of professional boundaries
  • To identify training needs of staff and arrange appropriate training
  • Set up and maintain the necessary systems for monitoring the work of the programme
  • Provide regular reports of work to the responsible managers, including the production of an annual progress report
  • Ensure any training/promotion materials are co-produced with relevant stakeholders

  • Training:
  • To actively participate in own supervision and objective setting/appraisal, developing a professional development plan
  • Role model personal professional development to staff you are supporting
  • Make recommendations on how training/education could be enhanced which would support staff development

  • Policy and/or Service Development:
  • To gather best practice and develop a pathway/framework or staff career progression
  • To work with your line manager to ensure careers advice and employment support services are offered in line with other policies in CNWL
  • To ensure that effective referral and information structures related to the service are in place
  • To ensure that effective monitoring and evaluation systems are in place
  • Pre and post feedback is obtained from all stakeholders to measure impact of service

  • Management of Resources:
  • To work with external agencies to maximise use of both internal and external resources in the delivery of employment support services
  • Develop a resource page on CNWLs intranet

  • Research and Development:
  • To keep abreast of changing practice within support employment and employment law
