An opportunity has arisen in Blackpool for an experienced, self-motivated pharmacist with a genuine interest in mental health to take up a clinical pharmacist position within a progressive pharmacy team based at The Harbour.

The post is based at The Harbour Inpatient Hospital in Blackpool, covering a range of Mental Health wards including Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, Acute Admissions, Dementia, Elderly and Advanced Care Wards including 136 suites. The Harbour is a 154 bedded mental health hospital which opened in March 2015. The hospital was designed with extensive input from service users and clinicians and is based on good practice guidance and 'safety by design' to ensure that it can provide high quality care. The ethos of the unit is to provide therapeutic care which is empowering, person centered and needs led, and focuses on promoting recovery and independence.

As part of the Fylde locality team you will be provided with the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of clinical pharmacy services to a variety of mental health in-patient wards. The successful applicant will be expected to provide professional and clinical leadership to a team of Pharmacists based at The Harbour.

Main duties of the job

The post will provide an opportunity for the following: -
  • Pharmaceutical care planning and clinical review of prescriptions
  • Involvement in multi-disciplinary ward rounds
  • Provision of medicines information to service users and staff
  • Opportunity to experience pharmacy practice across varied in-patient services
  • Provision of clinical supervision and professional leadership to other members of the team
  • Development of a non-medical prescribing role if not already achieved
  • Supporting robust medicines management processes in a wide variety of teams
  • Involvement in service design and development to ensure effective medicines management
  • Attendance at strategic network meetings e.g. locality governance meetings
  • Actively working to deliver the Trust medicines optimisation strategy
  • Ensuring compliance to GPhC standards for dispensing.

You will have current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council, a postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience, and significant post registration experience preferably with a hospital or mental health setting. A qualification as a non-medical prescriber would be desirable but applicants with a willingness to work towards this qualification would be considered.
