We are looking for highly motivated Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker, looking to join a dynamic Psychiatric Liaison Team we have a fantastic opportunity for you.

Main duties of the job

Liaison Psychiatry Services address the mental health needs of people being treated for their physical health needs within the general hospital.

The prevalence of mental illness among people with physical health conditions is two to three times higher than in the rest of the population. Prevalence is particularly high in the hospital setting, where around half of all inpatients suffer from a mental health condition such as depression, dementia or delirium.

The purpose of our Somerset Foundation Trust Psychiatric Liaison Service, is to provide assessment, liaison, treatment and advice. Ensuring that mental health and physical health are treated with equal parity, therefore improving health outcomes and experience.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To demonstrate clinical expertise via interventions, supervision and modelling good practice.
  • To ensure that the team comply with the agreed timescales for the service in relation to the assessments of service users and report any breaches to the OSM.
  • To work with the team and support the OSM in developing Clinical Pathways and Liaison Protocols including those relating to dementia, substance misuse, self-harm and functional illness.
  • To promote collaborative and multidisciplinary team working
  • They will demonstrate a lead role in the maintenance of a learning environment receiving and assisting with the delivery of training to colleagues within the Acute Trust.
  • To complete assessment of mental health needs for people referred to the team. These will include people presenting with both functional and organic problems.
  • To lead on complex assessments that may be referred to the Liaison Service.
  • To support more junior staff members in developing and enhancing clinical skill through role modelling.
  • Act as lead clinicians with a specialised area with the acute hospital enhancing collaborative working.


Person Specification

Qualification

Essential

  • Relevant Professional Qualification (RMN/SW/OT).


Desirable

  • To hold an advanced professional/clinical qualification (e.g. AMHP, CBT, DBT, NMP)
  • Leadership training


Experience

Essential

  • Specialist knowledge and clinical expertise in working within acute mental health and assessment.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience at band 6 or above.
  • Experience of supervising and managing staff


Desirable

  • Experience in working within Liaison Psychiatry


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Experience of undertaking complaint or incident investigations
  • Evidence of a good standard of literacy/English language skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively across a variety of settings and service boundaries
