Southampton Neonatal Unit is looking for a band 7 Ward Leader to be join the team who are responsible for the day to day running of the department. ABOUT THE TEAM

Southampton Neonatal Unit cares for a population across the South Coast region, providing intensive, high and special care as well as having a community outreach team. We host the regional transfer service, SONeT, ensuring that families receive care in the most appropriate hospital, closest to their home. We can offer a range of specialities to our patients here in Southampton, including neonatal surgery and cardiac services.

We are in a new stage of development for the department with an approved expansion plan to add capacity and improve the care environment. Moving forward, we are committed to developing a culture that is inclusive and supportive to all and this starts with our leadership team. We are looking for 24/7 leadership cover to ensure that we are maintaining both care standards and a positive working environment.

Person Specification

Qualifications / training required

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC Register
  • Recognised mentorship qualification and experience as a Sign Off mentor
  • Degree or working towards
  • Specialist Neonatal Qualification
  • Relevant clinical courses
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Provide evidence of supporting a range of learners in practice
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice. Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice


Desirable

  • Management Course (or equivalent)


Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

  • Extensive experience to include considerable experience at Band 6 level
  • Evidence of clinical leadership ability
  • Proven management experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Evidence of utilising evidence in practice
  • Logical and consistent career pattern


Desirable

  • Broad range of post registration experience
  • Evidence of staff development and succession planning
