Bristol Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service (BSDAS)

Applications are invited for the post of Locum Specialty Doctor in Addiction Psychiatry at the Bristol Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service (BSDAS).

The post is a fixed-term contract from 2nd August 2023 to 6th August 2024, and will be based at the Campbell House, Bridewell and Acer Unit sites in central Bristol.

Bristol ROADS (Recovery Orientated Alcohol and Drug Service) provides treatment for people who use alcohol and drugs and is delivered by several partnership organisations. It aims to provide quality treatment that will enable service users to make positive changes and re-integrate within their local communities for long term recovery.

BSDAS is an NHS service within ROADS that offers both rapid assessment and evidence-based treatment interventions include specialist pharmacological and psychological interventions, group work, and community and inpatient detoxification.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide medical support to the team. Duties include assessing new referrals, prescribing opiate substitution treatment, supporting community and inpatient detoxes and providing input into treatment care plans.

This is a well-supported post and would suit both career psychiatrists on a break from training rotations or GP/General Medicine trainees wishing to gain some experience in substance misuse psychiatry.

You must have completed at least 4 years' full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least 2 years of which has been in Psychiatry. You should demonstrate excellent communication skills and show you can work collaboratively in a team.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Eligibility

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practice or eligible to be included on the register.
  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Psychiatry or shall have equivalent experience and competencies


Desirable

  • Section 12 Approval
  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.


Skills

  • Ability to manage own time and workload and prioritise clinical work
  • Ability to appraise own performance
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills


Knowledge

  • Up to date knowledge of issues in Mental Health Service for this specialty.
