Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated, organised, dynamic and enthusiastic individual with a passion for research to join our team on a fixed term or secondment basis until 31st March 2025. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual who thrives on the challenge of working in the NHS environment. We are seeking to ensure high quality research becomes increasingly culturally embedded in all aspects of clinical service delivery, in order to improve the value of healthcare outcomes and contributes to knowledge to further improve the provision of evidenced based practice.

It is our ambition to widen the opportunities for research participation for our service users and staff alike, thereby ensuring equality of access to research for the people of Powys. This will require the growth of a thriving research culture supported by an appropriate infrastructure. We will provide the opportunity for patients to participate in research, enabling them to take a more active role in making decisions about their healthcare, help them to manage their conditions better, keep them out of hospital, and give a greater sense of empowerment and provide a positive and rewarding patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within PTHB safeguards the well-being of the research participants, to include patients, staff and control subjects. This will involve supporting participants through the research pathway, in accordance with the research protocol and relevant legislation. Applicants must have proven research and management and performance experience, highly developed communication and leadership skills, together with the ability to organise and motivate others whilst helping to strengthen the research culture across the organisation.

Post is advertised as a fixed term or secondment opportunity until 31st March 2025 to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge


  • Degree or demonstrable equivalent level of relevant work and experience
  • Management qualification or equivalent demonstrable level of experience and/or training
  • Knowledge of Research Management and Research Governance procedures and processes
  • nderstanding of evidencebased practice and clinical effectiveness


  • Part of professional body such as ARMA (Association of Research Managers and Administrators)
  • A good understanding of intellectual property issues relating to research



  • Experience of managing research activity, to include experience in the set up and approval phases
  • Experience of research governance including compliance in meeting standards and requirements
  • Experience of successfully obtaining research grant funding
  • Experience of ensuring adherence to research governance protocols
  • Experience in writing and supporting research bid applications
  • Experience of monitoring /managing research income and expenditure
  • Experience of building and developing effective collaborative relationships with partners, industry, and academia
  • Experience of developing and conducting audits to assure compliance with policies
  • Experience of developing and providing training
  • Demonstrable experience of highly developed verbal and written communication skills and of preparing reports
  • Proven ability to analyse and communicate highly complex, and detailed information through a variety of different mediums, including presentations to a range of audiences and preparing communications for the general public


  • Experience of staff management

Aptitude and abilities


  • Highly proficient in the use of all relevant software applications including all Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience and a proven track record in delivering successful partnership working
  • Excellent organisational/ administrative skills
  • Ability to understand and explain research methodologies
  • Ability to develop and implement action plans
  • Flexible approach to working including problem solving skills, management of change
  • Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively and deliver results on time, meeting strict deadlines
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills and the ability to encourage and engage a variety of key managers and stakeholders


  • Ability to speak Welsh
  • Experience in the use of R&D related databases including ReDA
