Are you a Speech and Language Therapist who wants to take the next step in their career path and develop their leadership skills? We have an exciting opportunity working in the beautiful county of Dorset. Our Children and Young People's Speech and Language Therapy Service is looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist who can provide excellent clinical and operational leadership and line management support to the Bournemouth North and Central Team.

You will need to be able to demonstrate effective leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop others require excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of people at all organisational levels across different sectors be experienced in working through others to improve services provided and plan and implement strategies and service improvement.

This is an exciting time for the service as we are working with our partners in health, education and social care to implement a system wide approach to speech and language support for children and young people in Dorset working to The Balanced System framework.

This is a permanent, full time post within our friendly and supportive team. We are able to offer a robust induction, a range of CPD opportunities and for the successful candidate to continue to undertake some clinical work across 0-19 age range.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be
  • Responsible for ensuring the delivery of high quality person centred services with a focus on integrated care which always considers people's safety, privacy and dignity.
  • Provide day-to-day management and leadership of a clinical team and / or specialist practitioners and other staff in the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Act as a champion for clinical standards and for continuous improvement in the service user experience.
  • Ensure the delivery of up to date evidence based practice.
  • Contribute to the planning and design of services in line with Trust, locality and government objectives to meet the needs of local people.

Person Specification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Registered health practitioner to degree level supplemented by minimum PG Dip (120 credits) plus working towards MA / MSc or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty
  • Evidence of recent evidence based professional development in an up to date portfolio
  • Broad clinical and multi-agency knowledge


MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY

Essential

  • Previous clinical people management experience


JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience as a registered practitioner at Band 6 level
  • Evidence of involvement in the development of programmes of care, protocols and audit
  • Practical experience of facilitating and managing change


PERSONAL QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • Able to communicate effectively at different levels of the organisation and with staff, patient/service users, visitors or external organisations both verbally and in writing in the exchange of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information which may require the use of negotiating and/or persuasive skills.
  • Experience of planning and organising complex activities requiring the formulation and adjustment of plans .e.g. organising own time, co-ordination with other agencies and plans for sudden, unforeseen circumstances.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and changing priorities
