Kent Community Health NHS Trust Dental Services are commissioned to provide Community, Prison and General Dental services in Kent, and London. The Service compliments general and hospital dental services and involves multi-agency working to provide a range of quality dental services. The range of services includes Sedation, Special Care Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, Domiciliary care, Bariatric and also the Tooth Fairy GA Assessment project working in collaboration with the Royal LondonHospital. Loxford Polyclinic also operates an early start system for 2 days per week.The Dental Nurse Team Leader will support the Practice Manager in the day to day running of the clinic. They will be responsible for the appraisal and supervision of dental nurses and admin staff. The post holder will be required to provide chair side assistance to clinicians, and have a flexible attitude to supporting other sites when required

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking the responsibility of organising/delivery of the special care dental nursing in community dental services
  • Undertaking specific roles as and when directed by the Practice Manager to support the day to day running of the clinics including the planning and management of staff rotas, implementing service initiatives/developments to ensure compliance with regulatory standards including, but not limited to, CQC, Dental Practice Inspections, Standard Operating Procedures, Health & Safety Risk Assessment etc.
  • Providing advice and guidance to front line staff, with line management duties for the dental nurses working in clinic.
  • Working in partnership with other Dental Nurse Team Leaders to ensure standardised practices across all sites

You will need to be able to demonstrate strong leadership, with the ability to work independently, proactively and under pressure.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • Recognised Dental Nurse qualification GDC Registered Dental Nurse


Desirable

  • Post qualification training and experience of providing chair side support during sedation under IV/RA Post Qualification in Special Care Post qualification in Dental radiography


Qualifications

Essential

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience within NHS dentistry.


Desirable

  • Experience within a Community Dental Service


Experience

  • Expertise within specialism underpinned by relevant practical experience and knowledge acquired through training and short courses equivalent to degree level e.g. minimum of 2 years' experience of supervising, directing and training dental nurses. Understanding of and commitment to upholding clinical and GDC standards. Knowledge and understanding of the SOEL Health dental application or similar dental application. Ability to develop and deliver training programmes for front line staff Evidence of continued professional development


Desirable

  • Understanding of NHS Human Resource policies Advanced knowledge and understanding of the SOEL Health Dental Application

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Proven ability to work within a team and to work under own initiative.
