Job summary

This is an exciting new role for an experienced Dermatology Band 6 Nurse who is looking for the next step up in their career.

The Dermatology Department is located in Luton where it was moved from the Outpatients Department based in the hospital to the community.We are a friendly team of doctors and nurses, with many Nurse-Led-Services. These include, phototherapy, patch testing, systemics and leg ulcers.

The Dermatology Unit is based within the town centre, and gives a wide variety of services. We are situated in Arndale House, The Mall, Luton.

The nurses are well supported by the doctors, which is important when working in a small team.

We have our own car parking, and the train station is a 10 minute walk to the unit.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialised care in long term skin disease management clinics.

To manage a caseload of patients and to ensure that patients and families are fully informed and supported.

Demonstrate in depth knowledge and competence in all aspects of Dermatology.

To have in-depth knowledge of phototherapy and be able to support new staff members for training.

To provide expert clinical advice, when seeing patients on systemics medication.

To be an independent non-medical prescriber, or be willing to work towards it.

Experience

Essential

  • Leading and driving change in clinical practice
  • Developing professional staff
  • Completed portfolio of supervised practice in advance clinical practice
  • Teaching in clinical practice


Desirable

  • National profile within the specialty
  • Research expertise and experience


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Research methodologies and tools for implementing evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of teaching and assessing in clinical practice
  • Leadership skills (i.e. facilitation and negotiation skills)
  • Teaching ability


Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven registered Nurse Level 1
  • Evidence of continuing education


Desirable

  • Leadership/ management course
  • Proven Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice
  • Proven Independent prescriber qualification
