Job summary

University Hospital Southampton has an exciting opportunity for a experienced, dynamic and motivated Clinical Research Coordinator to help support the UHS Cancer Research Team. This position provides the opportunity to work within a large and dynamic team to help deliver a sizable portfolio of studies.
About the team
The role will involve working closely with Investigators from within the Cancer speciality, Research Nurses, Study Sponsors and the R&D Team. A flexible, enthusiastic and professional individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills is therefore required for this role. The ideal candidate will have experierience of clinical research ideally in the NHS.

Job responsibilities

Your Responsibilities What youll do

The post holder will help to deliver a portfolio of commercial and non- commercial clinical research studies across the trust by helping with some aspects of the set-up of new studies and providing ongoing support for current studies. This ongoing support will involve organising, coordinating and taking responsibility for delegated non-clinical study specific tasks.
What were looking for
The successful applicant will ideally have previous clinical research experience, preferably within the NHS. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and an advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications are essential.

Person Specification

Qualifications / training required


  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge, skills and understanding in research & development
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


  • Evidence of current and on-going GCP training

Previous or relevant experience necessary


  • Relevant experience in conducting or organising clinical research trials
  • Research management and governance experience
  • Awareness of current legislation regarding the set-up and conduct of research in the NHS


  • Experience working in a large teaching hospital or university

Aptitudes and skills required


  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft applications for managing and analysing information, e.g. Word and Exce
  • Able to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work under own initiative and independently without direct supervision or as part of a team
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Works autonomously based on following clearly defined procedures and prioritising work in accordance to business need/strategy.


  • Previous experience working with edge as a RM&G too
