We currently have a vacancy for a Band 7 Specialist Practitioner - IRU
The applicant will be based in Roundwood ward - Lennard Jones Intestinal Rehabilitation Unit at St Mark's - Central Middlesex Hospital.
The department is a 22 bedded capacity supported by a multi-disciplinary team who offer a comprehensive approach to patients with intestinal failure receiving parenteral (feeding intravenously) or enteral (tube feeding) nutrition.
The post holder will be expected to be a clinical expert in assessment, diagnosis and management of patients who have complex gastrointestinal problems, nutritional deficiencies and had previous colorectal surgeries. Additionally, the practitioner is expected to be adept in the insertion of peripheral venous access devices - peripheral cannula, midline, and peripherally inserted central catheters or PICC (ultrasound-guided approach and PICC insertion training will be provided).

- To be a clinical expert in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients who have gastro/intestinal failure and nutritional disorders.
- To work alongside Consultant firms and act as an autonomous practitioner and be involved in the patient pathway.
- To be proactive in identifying the critically ill patient, initiate treatment plan and liaise with medical staff.
- To use expert specialist knowledge in caring for gastro and intestinal failure patients and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide support and advice to the consultant teams, nursing staff and other healthcare staff and manage own case load of patients with highly complex conditions.
- To have expert skills and knowledge in venipuncture and peripheral venous access provision for patients who have challenging vascular access
- To provide educational training sessions for junior doctors and nursing staff.
- To provide support for the appropriate patient pathway and ensure patients receive high quality seamless care.
- The post holder will be involved in clinical governance and Trust strategic agenda.
- The post holder will be responsive to the critical care delivery team.
