About ASDAS, Children's Community Services:

ASDAS is a multi-disciplinary team (SLT, OT, Social Worker and Paediatrics) providing evidence based assessments for children and young people aged 0-19 years with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our clinic is based at The Bridge, Mile End hospital and we also offer school/nursery visits if required. Following assessment we are able to offer information and sign posting about local services where children/young people that can access post diagnostic support.

Main duties of the job

About the role:

We are looking for clinical psychologists/child and adolescent psychotherapists who are passionate about working with children and young people with neurodevelopmental difficulties, and have experience of completing Autism assessments.

The role is based across two services - ASDAS and TH CAMHS. You will work 2 days a week with the CAMHS Team and 3 days a week with ASDAS. Within ASDAS the post holder would have opportunity to contribute to complex Autism assessments, develop post diagnostic recommendations and advice and contribute to MDTs and team meetings. Within TH CAMHS the post holder would be based within the Neurodevelopmental pathway and would have opportunity to complete interventions with young people and their families within the Neurodevelopmental pathway, contribute to MDTs, Autism assessments and group programmes (e.g. group for parents of children presenting with behaviours that challenge). The post holder would also have opportunities to shadow other pathways within TH CAMHS. and access to monthly Clinical Psychology/Child Psychotherapy meetings within TH CAMHS.

Quality Improvement is a cornerstone of ELFT and Barts Health and there would be opportunity and expectation to join in with wider service development initiatives. We provide group supervision opportunities, peer support, reliability group meetings and an in-service training programme.

ASDAS is based at Mile End hospital, with nearby underground and overground stations. (Stepney Green, Mile End, Whitechapel). The area is also serviced well by bus routes and Santander bike stations.

TH CAMHS is based at Greatorex Street, with nearby underground and overground stations. (Whitechapel, Aldgate East, Aldgate, Liverpool street). The area is also serviced well by bus routes and Santander bike stations.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience of completing social communication skills assessments of young people using ADOS assessment
  • Clinical qualification and professional registration as Clinical Psychologist/Child Psychotherapist


Desirable

  • Qualifications/ training in specialist skills relevant to post (e.g 3di, Training in Positive Behaviour Support or Applied Behavioural Analysis


Experience

Essential

  • . Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour, their families and wider networks
  • Previous experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist/Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with children and young people.
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based assessment and treatments with children, young people and families with complex presentations and emotional/ behavioural problems, specifically including the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Experience, skills and flexibility to contribute to and facilitate effective working within a multidisciplinary team setting

  • Project management or service development


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Specialist clinical skills for the assessment and treatment of ASD and LD
  • Ability to provide services in the complex community environment, to meet the needs of clients and families
  • Evidence of highly specialist clinical skills and knowledge in working with children/young people with neurodevelopmental difficulties
  • Skills in relevant, specific therapeutic modalities
  • . Knowledge of current therapeutic developments and guidelines in the assessment and treatment with children and adolescents with ASD and behavioural difficulties.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by professional guidelines
  • Knowledge of recent developments in evidencebased assessments and treatments and government initiatives for working with children and young people with ASD, challenging behaviour, within their family, education and wider community
  • Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and ethical issues, including The Children Act, and strategic frameworks and their implications for both clinical practice and professional management
