Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals Charity helps our local hospitals to do even more, funding projects over and above the NHS. Our fundraising makes a direct impact for local people with conditions such as cancer, heart disease and dementia, and for new babies with serious illness. Recent successes include �3Million raised through the Gloucestershire CT Appeal and our COVID-19 Appeal to make an impact on NHS Staff Wellbeing.

As the Major Donor and Trust Manager, you have an important role to play in enhancing the lives of patients and staff by developing and implementing a successful strategy to increase major donor and trust income for the charity. With your skills and experience, you will be helping coordinate the biggest capital appeal ever conducted in Gloucestershire. Collaborating with the Head of Income Generation you will cultivate and build exceptional relationships with High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) and trusts to support this transformative endeavour and the hospitals more widely. You have the freedom to shape your role and introduce innovative ideas and best practices and you will form part of the broader Fundraising Team.

Main duties of the job

Your communication skills and knowledge of major donor and trust fundraising will enable you to personally manage a portfolio of major donors and high level ambassadors, nurturing relationships, building a robust pipeline for the future and actively securing five and six figure gifts. Your written skills will also enable you to create a strong written case for support, helping to secure gifts from trusts and foundations.

You will work with the the wider fundraising team as they reach and exceed targets, deliver fundraising campaigns, create sustainable income streams and launch their largest ever fundraising appeal.

The post holder will report directly to the Head of Income Generation and will work closely with high level volunteers and supporters including our Capital Appeal Board, and with NHS Staff across Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Job responsibilities

Awareness of best fundraising practice (including the Fundraising Standards Board Codes of Fundraising Practice)

Knowledge and experience of prospect data research

A minimum of five years proven track record in major donor or trust fundraising

Experience of developing and delivering a strategy for significant growth, planning activities and measuring the return on investment.

Experience of recruiting new major donors or trusts to secure significant gifts for charity projects

Experience of income generation, meeting and exceeding fundraising income targets

Experience of project management including budgeting and financial management, with timely and accurate reporting for management information purposes

Ability to devise, plan and implement new fundraising campaigns and events

Experience of developing a programme to grow donations income, with recruitment of new and retention of existing supporters and delivering excellent stewardship.

Success in developing new appeals and donor communications

Experience of working with donors to cultivate new networks.

Educated to GCSE Level or equivalent Grade C English, or equivalent (e.g. National Adult Certificate Level 2 Literacy) and Mathematics Grade C or equivalent (e.g. National Adult Certificate Level 1 Numeracy)

Must have ability to travel daily to multiple locations in order to attend meetings

Strong IT skills including Zoom, Teams, Onedrive, sharepoint, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint

Experience of formatting documents to make them look professional for external use.

Experience of using a CRM system to analyse and report on performance, Ability to create reports and query data.

Ability to use the internet to obtain information on complex areas not readily available elsewhere, using known sites and search engines eg reports on donor behaviour

Experience of cash handling and banking

Accurate recording of figures

Knowledge of fundraising best practice in all matters relating to donations

Friendly and welcoming manner.

Good written and numeracy skills in order to prepare key documents and reports

Extremely strong communication skills for dealing effectively with supporters, staff and volunteers

Able to give strong oral presentations and make successful pitches for support on behalf of the charity.

Ability to engage and communicate sympathetically and compassionately with members of the public eg dealing with gifts in memory of a family member

Excellent verbal communication skills, excellent use of English and high level of literacy.

Strong organisational skills

Ability to analyse, investigate and resolve sometimes complex queries on a timely basis, providing explanations and undertaking corrective action, as required

Strong prioritisation skills and organisational skills, ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Experience of project management, identifying, planning and delivering on key milestones to ensure success of long term projects.

Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a team.

Able to prioritise activities and schedule daily workload, seeking advice where necessary

Able to work sensitively with donors and supporters who may have experienced serious illness, either themselves or with a loved one

Ability to work on own initiative and to tight deadlines, often under pressure and to a high level of accuracy

Ability to analyse, investigate and resolve sometimes complex queries on a timely basis, providing explanations and undertaking corrective action, as required

Advanced keyboard skills

Attending fundraising events with minimal physical skills required
