An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Occupational Therapist t to join our team at St Mary's Hospital with a passion for front end services to join our A& E therapy team.

We are looking for dynamic, forward thinking and passionate occupational therapist with excellent leadership, communication skills and advanced clinical skills, to join the team and deliver high quality, timely care. The post holder will be providing therapy assessment, treatment and interventions to assist with optimal transfers of care. The role will support discharge planning including specialist profession specific assessments and accessing other multidisciplinary specialist opinions where required.

As a senior member of a highly motivated Multi-disciplinary team they will be responsible for providing client-centred, goal orientated interventions to patients within the Emergency department.

Their intervention will combine a wide range of skills including advanced risk assessment skills to deal with the variety of problems identified, including those with cognitive decline. The objective is to maximise patients' functional ability for the facilitation of optimal discharges as well as the prevention of inappropriate admissions and readmissions. They will assist the multi-disciplinary team and community teams by contributing to the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluation of Therapy input to the Acute and Emergency Medicine pathways.

Main duties of the job

The role would provide therapy assessment, treatment and interventions to assist with optimal transfers of care and discharge planning including accessing other AHP specialist opinions where required.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • HCPC Registration
  • Degree/diploma in Occupational Therapy


Desirable

  • Practice placement educator training
  • Member of relevant specialist interest professional development group


Experience

Essential

  • Over two years' experience in the acute inpatient setting, with relevant experience in acute medicine/ Emergency department or frailty.
  • Experience of treating patients individually and/or in groups as an independent practitioner in clinical situations
  • Experience in leading on staff supervision including appraisal ( PDR) documentation
  • Experience in supervising students and completing student placement documentation


Desirable

  • Previous Band 7 Experience in relevant area.
  • Previous experience in leading Service improvement projects


Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

  • Advanced Clinical knowledge of common conditions/diagnoses and an awareness of less common conditions in Acute Medicine
  • Good awareness of integrated working
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to undertake physical activity involved with therapeutic handling of patients
