This is for Band 5 Paediatric Staff Nurses to join our busy and dynamic Children's Department at Royal United Hospitals, Bath. The Children's Ward is an expanding and developing service caring for children with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions from 0-18 years. We are looking for enthusiastic and innovative Paediatric Nurses to join our friendly team. These roles would suit experienced, newly qualified or due to qualify nurses.

As a Band 5 nurse, you will be expected to deliver care to some of the most vulnerable patients to include newly diagnosed diabetics, oncology patients and those in our high dependency area. There is much opportunity and support for continuing professional development.

We provide care to a large patient demographic and services are growing to accommodate the ever changing needs of children and their families.

This is a varied role and the post holder will be able to demonstrate collaborative working alongside a dedicated team of practitioners who deliver high quality care to children and families both in the community through our team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Trust Wide with the teams in our Emergency department and NICU.

Main duties of the job

  • Acting as a Named Nurse, to maintain accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care withinthe framework of team nursing.
  • To co-ordinate the patients' discharge arrangements in accordance with the RUH Discharge Policy.
  • To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
  • To educate patients and their carers as required where a need hasbeen identified.
  • To provide information which enables patients to make choicesabout adopting a healthy lifestyle
  • Professional Development and Education Responsibilities
  • To develop own teaching skills and participate in staff/studenteducation programmes.
  • To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff.

Audit, Quality and Risk Management Responsibilities
  • To contribute to the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards.
  • To maintain awareness of the national, professional and localquality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services, e.g.Clinical Governance.
  • To uphold quality initiatives that improve 'customer care' and enhance the interface between staff, patients and visitors.

Resource Management Responsibilities
  • To develop and maintain an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment.
