An exciting opportunity has arisen within Powys Teaching Health Board (PtHB) to join our team as a Pharmacist Prescribing Advisor working within our Primary Care Medicines Management department.

The post offers a full-time role, working within a small team to deliver a Powys-wide medicines management service.

Reporting to the Head of Primary Care Medicines Management, we are looking for a pharmacist to work alongside an experienced medicines management team to:
  • Provide medicines management advice and support to our GP surgeries.
  • Promote cost-effective and evidence-based prescribing.
  • Actively contribute to the team's cost-efficiency plans.
  • Develop a good working knowledge of all aspects of primary care medicines management. (Care homes / GP Surgeries / Community Pharmacy)
  • Author and implement prescribing guidelines and policies.
  • Assist in solving issues, supporting/mentoring junior staff and support improvement of quality management systems.


Main duties of the job

Help develop and implement local and national prescribing and medicines management action plans and policies, to include AWMSG National Prescribing Indicators and antimicrobial stewardship.

Provide timely, expert advice on pharmaceutical matters to primary care contractors (GP/Pharmacy/Optometry/Dental), Health Board colleagues and other external providers.

Monitor prescribing spend against budget, identify areas where there are cost saving opportunities and develop options to deliver savings.

We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate about patient care and wants to improve patient services, always ensuring that the best is obtained from medicines.

The post holder will be a pharmacist registered with the GPhC . We will provide ongoing personal development and training opportunities.

This post is up to 37.5 hours per week. It is anticipated that the majority of the post-holder's time will be spent working from home, although site visits will also be required.

Qualifications and / or Knowledge

Essential

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience or qualifications
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD)


Desirable

  • Independent Prescriber Qualification
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society


Experience

Essential

  • Significant and relevant postregistration experience
  • Knowledge of NHS Primary Care contracts and Commissioning arrangements
  • Broad knowledge of therapeutics / clinical pharmacy
  • Experience of collaborating with other health care professionals
  • Experience of supervising Pharmacy colleagues
  • Good knowledge of medicines governance processes
  • Good knowledge of medicines management issues at the interface


Desirable

  • Experience of working within a primary care organisation or General Practice
