Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the ICT Directorate at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to fill the pivotal and strategic role of Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO). You will lead a team of clinical digital leads and digital implementers..

This is a permanent role to support the digital transformation agenda on a clinical and nursing basis. This role will be fundamental to successful engagement with the nursing and clinical teams in ensuring our new digital solutions and all IT systems work well and safely with our clinical processes. It is critical we have solutions that meet the needs of our patients.

This is a great opportunity to be involved in the ICT Digital Transformation Strategy programme of works; to help improve the ICT infrastructure and influence, drive clinical safety, clinical engagement and patient engagement in the organisation towards totally electronic solutions and a paperless trust by 2025.

This is a permanent role.

Main duties of the job

Takes lead responsibility for the patient experience initiatives that improve ICT work in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Nursing and reporting to the Director of ICT.

Take a lead nursing responsibility for our New Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration strategy and delivery. Ensure nurses are sufficiently trained, engaged and their processes are well documented for this programme of work.

The postholder will play a key role and provide strong leadership on behalf of the ICT department supporting the teams to deliver in line with agreed objectives and providing constructive challenge to improve decision making and outcomes.

To actively contribute and influence strategy development and decision making with a range of stakeholders, including both clinical and non-clinical staff, to help progress the work of the performance and informatics teams.

Develops highly specialised programmes of care and care packages. Provides highly specialised advice concerning digital care records. (Add In line with National guidance and legislation)

To lead and manage a wide portfolio of ICT work which requires oversight and direction to ensure delivery and scrutiny of results and performance.

Provide a nursing and allied health professional view on the clinical safety of ICT projects, programmes and support the CCIO to assess the clinical safety of IT solutions and changes. Highlight and other IT related safety issues in relation to clinical care for action and attention.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Recognised management/ leadership qualification
  • 1st degree level study
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience and training
  • Recognised Teaching Qualification.


Desirable

  • Project management/PRINCE
  • MBa or closely related field
  • PhD in Nursing/Informatics or working towards.


Experience

Essential

  • Recent significant clinical experience at AFC Band 8a or above (matron, senior manager or above)
  • Recent clinical leadership in the field of ICT
  • Experience of facilitating change in large and diverse clinical teams.
  • Recent experience in ICT role
  • Relevant experience of supporting leadership and management development programs and initiatives
  • Experience of working across organisational boundaries and developing effective partnerships.
  • Proven change management experience in large and diverse clinical teams in the NHS.
  • Proven ability to problem solve and analyse individual projects in a complex organisation and find innovative solutions to those problems.
  • Provide evidence of contributing to developing policy and strategy for a complex NHS organisation
  • Knowledge of NHS targets, definitions and service improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of change management service improvement methods.
  • Practical experience of supporting and facilitating service improvement in NHS including experience of positively influencing senior clinicians.
  • Awareness of current technological projects and strategy
  • Awareness of governance/ quality assurance frameworks and implications on workforce development
  • Ability/ Evidence of training and facilitation skills
  • Experience of working with other NHS partnerships at all levels to achieve common goals and benchmark change and modernisation.
