Simmons House Adolescent Unit

RMN/RCN/RLDNInpatient CAMHSSimmons House is a 12 bedded unit specialising in the inpatient treatment of those aged 13-18 presenting with a range of mental health problems.As a Staff Nurse, in addition to working in a committed and highly skilled nursing team, you will have the opportunity to develop skills working therapeutically alongside our dynamic MDT in Individual, Group and Family contexts. You will have the opportunity to expand your day to day management experience and to build up links with referrers and community based services.

Job responsibilities

We offer a developed and highly structured system of clinical supervision and training, and are committed to supporting suitable external training alongside in house training, in line with the knowledge skills framework. It is desirable for candidates to have had a period of post qualification experience. Whilst previous relevant experience would be an advantage, we are equally impressed with those who can demonstrate imagination and enthusiasm, and who feel they can make a contribution to the work with this stimulating and rewarding client group. We also offer preceptorship packages for newly qualified nurses.

We are opening this post to RCNs and RLDNs who are interesting in joining our team and supporting us with bringing new skills and ideas.The post involves working with children and adolescents so the successful candidate will need to have a Disclosure Barring Scheme check.

  • RMN
  • RCN


Desirable

  • . Evidence of some post-basic training, or other relevant qualifications


Experience

Essential

  • Post qualification mental health work.
  • An understanding of basic interpersonal, group & systems dynamics. Knowledge of cognitive behavioural and medical model approaches
  • An understanding of the specific needs of adolescents & families
  • Working knowledge of Primary Nursing or key work
  • Multi-disciplinary team experience
  • Experience of teaching & supervision of junior staff
  • Can show an awareness of the skills necessary to effectively manage shifts on an adolescent unit
  • Clear practical and theoretical knowledge of 1983 Mental Health Act. Also knowledge of the Children Act 1989
  • Ability to plan care for disturbed adolescents
