Aneurin Bevan University Health Board provides maternity care to almost 5500 women and birth people, throughout their pregnancy journey. We cover a large geographical area with a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds over 5 hospital sites.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Midwife to join our team. Aneurin Bevan university health board is passionate about ensuring women / birth people and their families provide effective health services which are effective, efficient and equal accessible to all. The post holder will be expected to act as a professional role model in order to ensure others are enabled to support the priorities for achieving good health in the local population and ourvision is that every person's chance of leading a healthy life should be equal.

Main duties of the job

This is a key organisational wide role and the post holder will be the lead responsible for developing the public health agenda within maternity services. The lead midwife for public health will have expert knowledge and skills to support the development of the public health agenda. They will also assist in the implementation and monitoring of the key public health priorities for maternity services.

The successful candidate will be required to provide direct and indirect care, whilst developing others through training and education. The post holder will demonstrate an advanced knowledge of the public health agenda and will be instrumental in supporting and contributing to research developments in this area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for advising maternity team colleagues on public Health matters and will also advise the Health Board, in conjunction with the Head of Midwifery on the key public health initiatives across maternity services.

They will be responsible for providing direct and indirect care whilst developing others through training and education. This will include providing education on the mandatory and professionals skills days and contributing to the updating of staff in any new public health initiatives which require implementing.

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and auditing the public health key performance indicators in line with Welsh Government Maternity Strategy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current NMC registration
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Evidence of relevent CPD


Desirable

  • Management or leadership training


Experience

Essential

  • All round midwifery experience
  • Specialist knowledge and experience in public health developed through training and practice
  • Evidence of delivering high quality teaching to staff groups.


Desirable

  • Additional qualification in public health
  • Experience in MEC training


Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Proven leadership skills.
  • Ability to influence and motivate at all levels
