Job summary

We currently have an exciting opportunity to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow in Endoscopy for a 12 month fixed term period with a possibility of extension to contract.

The person appointed will be based at Aintree and will be a member of the Gastroenterology Directorate.

Applicants are required to be registered with the General Medical Council and be JAG certified for independent diagnostic upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Main duties of the job

The appointee, together with his or her colleagues will have a commitment to the provision of Gastroenterology. This will primarily focus on the delivery of lower GI diagnostic endoscopy, and training in lower GI therapeutic techniques of endoscopic mucosal resection and other aspects of therapeutic endoscopy.

In addition, other duties will include research, audit, administration and continuing medical education.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The appointee, together with his or her colleagues will have a commitment to the provision of Gastroenterology. This will primarily focus on the delivery of lower GI diagnostic endoscopy, and training in lower GI therapeutic techniques of endoscopic mucosal resection and other aspects of therapeutic endoscopy.

In addition, other duties will include research, audit, administration and continuing medical education. A job plan of the fixed sessions is available. Please note that this timetable may be subject to change following current reorganisation of outpatient and endoscopy sessions. Further discussions and changes to the job plan can be accommodated to individual candidates requirements on mutual consent.

We would be keen to support the initial, supported delivery of training and Train the Trainer accreditation if required.

There are very close links within the wider region for referrals to the colorectal team for advanced procedures such as ESD and TEMS. We also have every close links with the oncology teams and liver surgical teams for colorectal malignancy management.

The appointed candidate will be expected be involved in the MDT pathways for patient discussion and management.

A training programme will be tailored to the individuals needs and will concentrate on particular areas concentrating on lower GI therapy. Depending on individual needs exposure and training in other aspects of therapeutic endoscopy can be accommodated. In addition, there will also be training within the wider service including MDT and clinic. Successful candidate will also be encouraged to be involved in organising and running of courses at the Mersey School of Endoscopy

As part of the fellowship, regular appraisals will be undertaken.

All medical staff are expected to participate in Medical Audit. Regular bi-monthly audit meetings are organised in the department, and the appointee will be expected to participate.

Fully informed and documented consent will be undertaken for procedures and body tissue samples.

A commitment to Research will be encouraged.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP (or equivalent)
  • Full registration with GMC


Desirable

  • CCT for Gastroenterology


Experience

Essential

  • Independent in diagnostic colonoscopy
  • Good understanding of colonoscopic techniques and skills


Desirable

  • Experience and/or independence in basic therapeutic endoscopy
  • Evidence of delivering training and education
  • Proven track record in significant audit
  • Publication of audit results
  • Involvement in research
