Job summary
The General Surgery team at St George's Hospital wishes to appoint an ST1/ST2 level trust doctor to join the surgical team. The post would provide an ideal professional development platform from which the appointee may develop a portfolio of experience, although the post is not part of a formal training programme. The main responsibilities of the post are to care for the patients admitted to the wards for elective or emergency surgery

The appointee will be responsible for the care of patients under the colorectal or UGI surgical team, including administrative duties. They should be competent at the 'senior house officer level' in general and emergency surgery.

The post holder will be expected to agree mutually agreeable cross cover arrangements with his/her colleagues within the firm and for these arrangements to be documented in writing. Notification of annual or other arranged leave, and cover arrangements, must be at least six weeks prior to the proposed leave, and must be made in writing to the Specialty Manager for General Surgery, approved by a consultant within the firm. Post holder will be expected to work with and support the Physician assistants and clinical nurse specialists within the team.

Responsibilities:
- On-call duties, including day and night shifts on a rotational basis.
- Conducting General surgery clinics.
- Performing Theatre duties.
- Fulfilling ward duties, including ward rounds.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ensuring Health, Safety, and Welfare compliance.
- Maintaining confidentiality of confidential information according to Data Protection Act provisions.
- Adhering to the Trust's Equal Opportunities policy to prevent unlawful discrimination.
- Keeping skills up-to-date, following Trust policies and professional codes, and maintaining necessary registration.
- Complying with St. George's Healthcare No Smoking Policies.
- Undertaking additional duties as required, consistent with the grade and service needs.
